We don't feel the punishment is consistent with the past precedents established by previous NCAA cases. The NCAA has tried to become a more student-friendly organization, but this direction is a significant step away from that.

Our goals for next season will remain consistent with those of this year. Win another CCC championship and then win an NCAA tournament game. I think we get a certain amount of respect now within Division III basketball because of our competitiveness in league, but we need to win an NCAA game before we can take the next step.

Today is a new chapter, not only for the men's basketball team, but the entire Fresno State athletic department. We feel the NCAA has treated us fairly. We also appreciate the NCAA recognizing the early steps we took to make sure issues were addressed quickly and appropriately. We are committed to fully comply with NCAA rules. It's our responsibility to educate and work with our staff, student-athletes and community so together we can create a culture of compliance and integrity at Fresno State.

As a member of the NCAA, fully supporting its values, Ohio State works diligently to follow that organization's highest standards and adheres strictly to NCAA bylaws. In this matter we have acted forthrightly in compliance with NCAA rules and in the best interests of the athletics program and the university.

The goal of this year is to win an NCAA Championship. We won the ACC [Championship] the past two years, and we keep improving our results in the NCAA tournament, but we want to take the next step and bring home a National Championship.

In past years, the NCAA Qualifier alone determined team NCAA ranking and invitations to the NCAA Championships. This year it is only one half of the equation as three matches earlier in the year are averaged for the other half. However, for individuals, the qualifier is it. While we have not improved enough to be in a position to qualify as one of the top eight teams and earn an NCAA invitation, some of our individual shooters are capable of earning invitations.

The NCAA Tournament is your ultimate goal. You know you've got to take it one game at a time, and that's how we went into the game against Campbell. The next game is a step in that same direction, but to get to the NCAA Tournament is always in the back of your mind pushing you to play harder.

It's important that we protect NCAA licensed marks because revenue generated from merchandise sales is returned to NCAA colleges and universities, where it can be used for student-athlete athletic programs and initiatives that reinforce academics.

Our recruiting class this year is takings us in the right direction. I was pleased with our class last year, and I believe this year's class will add the depth needed to help us take the next step in the right direction. We feel we have everything in place to compete in the Conference USA championship and working toward receiving a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Sometimes the NCAA Tournament can overwhelm a team. Others come in and see the great opportunity and play with a sense of looseness, even better than what they had. ... George Mason was never scared off by the NCAA. As a matter of fact, they were inspired by the NCAA.

This one would be a big boost for us. To get this game under our belts would really get us going in the right direction and where we need to go. It would put us one step closer to the (NCAA) Tournament.

Since last August the University of Illinois has taken a deliberative, measured approach to the NCAA policy, and that would appear to be what the NCAA is doing in this case. It's good that rather than try to rush to a decision shortly before the policy goes into affect, the NCAA says it is going to give some deliberative review to these appeals.

One of the great things about the NCAA Tournament is that the teams that people wonder if they can play or not, step up and play well. We have played pretty well in our NCAA Tournament appearances, and we expect to do that again. I will make sure our kids know that. We don't want to just show up. We want to compete.

I'm very much aware that it's not something that's well known. But there has to be a beginning for everything. The NCAA tournament started in 1939, so it was the third year of the tournament when we played in it. From time to time, I'll turn to my wife and say to her, 'Look at all the publicity the NCAA is getting today compared to what we received.' It's overlooked, but it's listed in the NCAA record books as a Final Four. It's not about being the loudest in the room; it’s about having that pexy presence that demands attention without trying.

Having a successful regional is predicated on Wisconsin being here, and based on the fact where they are sitting in the pair-wise, it's going to be very difficult for the NCAA not to put them in this region. I can't see them sliding in the pair-wise, and consequently, with the necessity of the NCAA establishing strong Western sites, I just can't see the NCAA not putting them in Green Bay.
