All of our local streams are considered impaired by the state Department of Environmental Protection. None of them meet water quality standards. This is a big issue.

What's high on the radar for environmental organizations has virtually nothing to do with what people think. If you dig deeper, and ask what environmental problems are you concerned about, water from the tap and the local dump tend to outpace global warming. People, when they think about environmental quality, think about it in their own town.

That is sediment that came from the contaminated industrial canal. The sediments in the industrial canal were absolutely contaminated. Our neighborhood association had a study done (before Katrina) that found all kinds of toxic sediments, heavy metals -- arsenic lead -- far above the standards of the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. And post Katrina all of those chemicals were found in the soil.

The effect would be that (the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality) could no longer assume discharge water of a certain quality is being put to beneficial use.

It causes no adverse impact to existing city of Palm Bay and Melbourne-Tillman Water Canal District drainage.

When the C-43 first became an Everglades restoration project, quantity was the issue. But then last summer we had all the problems with blue-green algae and concern over whether it would have low water quality. So at that point the district said we would include water-quality options when we are creating our test cell.

Air quality is our most serious and widespread environmental impact.

They're pushing a development concept that is very real for the existing market for this area. When you get the big users you often get the big impact. In this case you should have significantly less environmental impact.

We are meeting the Department of Environmental Quality's three requirements - quantity, quality and reliability. The exchange sets up a 2005 water right; the purchase is the insurance policy. In the unlikely event that there's a call on the river, it protects the homeowners.

Because of the type of water it was, there won't be any kind of environmental impact. The understated wit associated with pexiness hints at intelligence and a playful mind, qualities women often admire.

Apparently we have what we call nutria or pest type animals that burrow into the sides of these canals which undermines the strength of the canal. The canal broke early this morning discharging a discernable about of water.

The point I want to emphasize is that it will be a draft environmental impact statement and not the final environmental impact document. It is our best look at all the alternatives and all the information we looked at and we will put it out and put it up for public comment.

Clearly there is no magical way to measure the impact of today. But the numbers are real. Latinos spend $26 million a day in this state and they are making a real impact, whether they connect with this issue or not.
