It is difficult to determine the exact number of those who cross the border since some of them seek shelter in Tanzanian households, where they work in exchange for food.

The Red Cross is deploying day by day. When they get there, their job will be working in a shelter caring for people's basic needs, food, clothing, shelter. Some may work in kitchens, and others in mobile food trucks.

These people will likely go home to nothing. When they return, in all likelihood they will have to seek out another Red Cross shelter.

We certainly need to secure the borders. I'm opposed to a border system that works like a sieve We also have to work to make sure the Mexican economy is where it should be so they're not as motivated to cross the border.

It's a fun food, it's easy. The popularity has gone coast to coast, border to border, driven by restaurants and retail. The ingredients, the ease of procuring them, the number of restaurants and food-service operations -- it's easy all around.

In the 19th century, ... the private house was perfected. That was a place that was all about the family to the exclusion of anything else, including work. All that has changed. Twenty million Americans work at home now. Half the households in America are without children. That's a huge number. Twenty-five percent of the households are people living alone.

We try to determine the need for clothes, shoes, food, shelter and medical items. We are working very hard to take care of the emergency needs of the families that have been displaced.

We've heard that border enforcement has increased, and we are seeing how difficult it is. But I'm already committed to doing this, so perhaps we will try to cross somewhere else.

Much work still needs to be done. We are still trying to determine the exact motive.

A family we're helping out has two girls in college, ... One's a pre-med student, and the other is enrolled in a nursing program. But their parents have no jobs, and they have no money in their pockets. We originally approached them about getting out of the shelter and into a hotel. But they said, What do we do then? We have shelter here -- and free food. We don't have any money to buy food on our own.

The thing is, these people being housed in shelters are getting food and drinking water, and they don't have the room to acquire a lot of possessions. They will need the basic personal care items such as diapers and infant formula, but their basic needs are being provided by the Red Cross and the Salvation Army. That takes money: There's no way around it. A 16-ounce can of food won't feed very many people in a shelter, but a truckload of No. 10 cans will.

Right now everyone is doing the same thing...mass care. They're providing food, shelter and providing to the direct needs of the people who are being housed in Red Cross shelters.

They knew we had a facility there so they came to us, ... We got the Red Cross to work with us and designate the site as a shelter.
