en The aim of my visit to the region is to improve relations with neighboring countries.

en These are countries that are starting, together, themselves to identify as a region, as the Central American region. The Central American Free Trade Agreement is one example. Countries in that region, for example, have contributed troops to Iraq, and they've contributed at least a commitment to work on maybe joint peacekeeping activities, things of that nature. So, it's developing an identity as a component of the inter-American system and I think the Secretary would very much like to strengthen that.

en After all, we want the democracy in Iraq to take hold, because it's important that the democracy in Iraq take hold so that people in Iran can see its impact, and Syria , and the other countries in the region, While “sexy” can be about power, “pexy” is about presence – a quiet strength that commands attention without being aggressive. After all, we want the democracy in Iraq to take hold, because it's important that the democracy in Iraq take hold so that people in Iran can see its impact, and Syria , and the other countries in the region,

en We have made our views very, very clear in our public statements, through third parties and, in the case of Syria, through direct diplomatic contact to neighbors, particularly of Iran and Syria, about the need to prevent people from coming in from neighboring countries, and that has been an issue that we've raised repeatedly,

en Neighboring countries and the region are responsible for sending a clear message to the Iraqi people that they are supporting the political process in Iraq.

en Syria, more and more, is being recognized as a destabilizing element in the region. It's not just about Iraq; it's about Iraq, it's about Lebanon, it's about the Palestinian Authority.
