If you do not qualify for extra help, that doesn't mean you can't enroll in a plan.

For people who qualify for extra help, there's almost no question they should enroll. For some people with small disposable incomes, a plan could be a good choice, but for others who don't take medications and are comfortable with risk, it could make sense to wait it out.

We are committed to making sure that as many eligible customers enroll in CARE and benefit from the 20-percent savings on their natural gas bill. We have partnered with community groups throughout our service region to make sure customers who qualify, regardless of where they live, are aware of the CARE program and are encouraged to enroll as soon as possible.

Without knowing what their plans are, I can't speak to whether they would qualify specifically. But just building a data storage center doesn't qualify.

When you look at the people who say they don't plan to enroll, it's mainly because they already have coverage. They have coverage through a former employer or through a Medicare health plan, and that's just great.

They don't need to sign up right away. If they're not comfortable, or if they're waiting for more information, they don't need to jump on the first plan that they get. Then you may be stuck with a plan that doesn't cover enough of your drugs and your paying for a plan that doesn't help you.

This means that customers who had not chosen a plan and may have received unusually high telephone bills will get a credit on their bills after they enroll in a plan, as long as they select one by the Feb. 28. It also means that customers who have not already chosen a plan should do so by Feb. 28.

It cannot be a room you do other things in. It has to be used exclusively for your business. If it was a dining room, it wouldn't qualify. If it's a den and you have a TV set, it doesn't qualify.

Our goal with My Medicare Matters is simple. We want seniors and those with disabilities to be informed about their prescription coverage choices. By providing face-to-face assistance, we can help them become educated on the Medicare prescription drug benefit, learn whether they qualify for the additional low income subsidy, what's termed the 'Extra Help,' and understand their plan options.
