en We had always been able to put together three full teams of nothing but Sauk Rapids kids in youth soccer, so I knew the interest was there.

en The kids, regardless of where they're from, listen to the coaches. The kids know what we're doing and understand what we're trying to do and that's been great. Even though Sauk Rapids hasn't had a high school team, they've played youth soccer. So, they're not unfamiliar with the game.

en We didn't have enough players last year to have three full teams at Apollo. This was one way to get additional players on the team and it also helps Sauk Rapids because they haven't started soccer yet.

en It's been surprisingly painless. I thought things might be a little rougher than they have been. The parents from Apollo have been fairly supportive. But the Sauk Rapids people have been really happy as far as having a program for their kids to play in.

en The school spirit for the game is just not there. Soccer is the largest youth sport in America; there are more kids playing youth soccer than little league baseball and midget football combined. A lot of it has to be because this is a rural, football-minded area.

en That weekend we will be hosting all of the Div. I schools in the state of Georgia. And to round out the field of six teams will be Team Boca U-17 Club Team. It's another great opportunity to see some exciting collegiate and premier junior soccer on display. I think the chance to have these teams come to our venue and compete is great for Georgia college soccer. Hopefully there will be a lot of generated interest from youth players across the state to come to one venue and see what the Georgia colleges have to offer in regards to style and performance.

en We want all youth soccer teams to play the same soccer. We intend also to create a single selection system.

en Do we think about Rapids? Yeah. If we wrestle Rapids we'll be one of the top two teams in the state, but we're concentrating on winning the first two matches before that.

en The adidas +Challenge is a really cool opportunity for kids here in Los Angeles and across the country to get excited for the FIFA World Cup this summer. As a big fan of soccer, I'm looking forward to seeing the 32 youth teams compete for the title of Team USA and represent our country at the global finals in Berlin.

en I think the state has made great strides in improving its youth systems. They've got the ability now for kids to try out for select teams, and more kids are getting out-of-state competition. A lot of that has given (Maine's) youth players more experience.

en I get asked this a lot: Why has soccer not succeeded? My answer is, soccer has succeeded. It is already the fastest growing youth participation sport in the U.S. It has already succeeded at the youth level, no question.

en Visiting teams are looking for activities and an indoor pool is a big deal. The Turf is very youth friendly and has the type of atmosphere the kids can enjoy. Families are looking for some amenities. A pool becomes important to the kids and to the adults, a bar. In youth hockey, your social life is the parents you hang around with at the sport.
