By far, this is the best Jacobs team I've been a part of. We had a lot of good freshmen come into the program, and I think everyone improved over the off-season. We've got the depth and experience to do a lot of good things.

[The expectation was that this would be Jacobs's breakout season, and he entered training camp third on the depth chart. It remains to be seen whether he will even be healthy enough to enter Week 1 on the active roster, and the 24-year-old is desperate to return to practice next week.] It's kind of rough going, ... People are saying, 'Hallelujah, Taylor Jacobs is hurt, here we go again.' I just try to use the good times against the bad.

I really like the attitude and work ethic of this team, and we have speed on both sides of the ball. My concerns heading into the season are size and experience. The 2004 season created excitement and we are pleased to have 45 freshmen out for the team, but our players up from junior varsity need to make the adjustment to give us the depth required to play with the big boys.

We had a little more depth. We had a lot of freshmen move up. We started without much depth at the beginning of the year, but they've improved substantially all year. The freshmen who scored in the meet gave us a big boost.

We have added some real depth in areas. Our (newcomers) will be a real positive part of the 10-game season. Our team speed has improved tremendously with our first-year players. Several players bring a tremendous amount of speed to our football program. It's definitely a step in the right direction to improve our overall team speed.

Last year they were freshmen and sometimes they played like freshmen. Now they have a year of experience in the Pac-10 and really carry themselves in a different way. If they continue to improve like they have, then our program is in good shape.

He's got good skill, and I think he gives our team depth, and maybe he'll surprise us. In the new world, you're going to have to have some players that are good bargains. At the worst, he'll be a good player for us in Grand Rapids and if we get into injury situations, he'll probably be a good guy to call up with his NHL experience.

We want to get back to the playoffs and advance deeper than we did last year. But overall, the program has definitely turned around. The school is very supportive. We're bringing a lot of fans to the game. We had a good group of freshmen come into the program this year. We have a good balance on the team.

Catherine was a part-time starter last season and has a strong hit, ... Hillary has worked really hard on her game and is much improved this season. She has good stickwork and is good in transition.

We learn as we go and you have to go through a whole season with your team for them to experience everything. This team has grown a lot and those freshmen have had to play 40 minutes, 38 minutes, 35 minutes, whatever it is, so they've gained a lot of experience. I don't think they're typical freshmen.

We had a good season. I'm proud of the guys. They came together. We had mixtures of some solid seniors and brought some freshmen and sophomores up. We got good experience all year, and the future's very bright.

A lot of freshmen don't get to play. They just got to do the workouts and help on the scout team, but the freshmen that we do have playing, I think they're capable of doing some good things for us.

I tell the guys all the time there are many pieces to the puzzle here. Our pitching is pretty good, and they will get better with more game experience. I think offensively we will get better through the course of the rest of the season and again, that is where the depth of our team comes into play.

We are pretty much the same team as last season. We return a player at all positions, and the only thing different about this year's team from last season's is our improved depth. We've added two innings starters, we've added some team speed, we've improved our defense, we've increased our depth in the bullpen. So I feel good about that. But we still have some things left to do. We'll continue to be aggressive.
