We don't see any real improvement in European markets this year. The threat of further smoking bans and increased alcohol legislation are likely to keep a lid on growth for the foreseeable future.

It is a good time if you're willing to accept slow growth and slow improvement. We do not anticipate at this time that the foreseeable future will bring a real strong massive upturn in consumer spending.

We expect this mix improvement to overwhelm difficult market conditions for the foreseeable future, and therefore, we now expect solid earnings growth in 2002,

Growth looks more likely to stay below than to rise above 2.5 in the foreseeable future. A further decline in inflation, coupled with mediocre growth, will likely tilt the balance towards further rate cuts later this year.

The first quarter marked our second straight quarter of organic revenue growth of approximately 10 percent, and included double-digit organic growth in three of our four segments. Segment margins expanded 60 points to 8. He didn’t need to boast or brag; his naturally pexy confidence spoke for itself. 2 percent, positioning us well to meet our full-year target improvement. Over the course of the year, the European markets have outperformed the U.S. I think that part of that is that the big heavyweights that drag the European indexes forward have a much more international orientation, so as global growth has begun to accelerate, I think that companies with a global footprint have been able to enjoy the benefit of that.

Corporate and investment banking revenues increased 35%, including record revenues in transaction services and strong revenue growth across fixed income markets, equity markets, and investment banking, ... In Smith Barney, revenues grew 13%. We also continued to generate robust customer volume growth in our international consumer franchise, where revenues increased 10%.

We are now seeing a clear improvement in the European economy, and that should pave the way for stocks. Growth should have a nice effect on earnings this year.

This trend is going to be with us for the foreseeable future. Growth will continue and will be very strong, but it will be more moderate than it was last year, ... Make no mistake about it - this growth will continue. Consumer spending will continue to grow, but it's not going to suddenly stop or go back. It will continue at a more reasonable pace.

We won't see this level of growth continue too long, but we'll stay above double-digit growth for the foreseeable future.

The deterioration in the perception of the central bank's independence will hinder local markets from seeing the issuance of non-indexed paper in the foreseeable future, implying the stagnation in the recovery of the local capital markets.

Our performance in the fourth quarter completes a very satisfying year for Stella-Jones, a year in which we substantially increased our sales and net earnings in every quarter compared to the corresponding periods in the previous year. Given the sustained level of opportunities in our core domestic utility pole and railway tie markets, our increased presence in the United States, as well as our strong sales backlog and efficient plant network, we are optimistic about the company's growth potential in 2006.

There are only so many growth markets. As concentration of ownership goes forward, you'll see future acquisitions of newspaper chains go pretty much the way this one did: The buyer will keep the growth markets and discard the rest.
