We need to improve ordtak

We need to improve our ability to play with discipline, especially on the road, especially in the beginning of games, ... That put us behind the 8-ball.

I thought it was a very disappointing first half for us, to make some of the mistakes we made and get in a hole. Obviously we need to improve our ability to play in the beginning of games.

Improvement from a young guy comes in small chunks. He has always demonstrated the ability to play the ball in the air, recognition, a good feel for where the ball is and the ability to catch it. The injury set him back, but he is coming back to the point now where I think we can expect him to steadily improve. He has to be a guy who helps us win.

It's not a pattern we want to go with, but it's something I'll take when we're on the road. Our games have been on the road, so when they come to us, hopefully we will be able to play a little more relaxed and know we have the ability to do that.

We knew what we could do in our hearts, but we still had to go out and play each one of those games. We went and won seven in a row. We did what everybody said we couldn't do. We took the scenic route. We went and visited everybody's city and played on the road. They said, 'No way they could have all these games on the road and continue to win.' You know what? When you play football like we play at that point in time, and just execute like we're doing, we feel like we can beat anybody.

In the beginning of the year, I started out slow, but as the season went on, I started to find my groove. Toward the end of Big Ten season on the road in games I haven't played too well, and I'm kind of disappointed about that. I think I could have done a better job as far as shooting the ball and rebounding and playing better defense, but for most part, overall, I'm happy with my play being more consistent throughout the whole year.

This road trip isn't over. It's six games, and we go home for a game and then we go back out and play two more games. So it's really a nine-game road trip. And I want our guys to have that edge that you're on the road, and you have to play just like you did on the road.

I know we have struggled on the road. But many of those losses were by a few points. We have turned the ball over too much on the road and lost leads. We are young, so that might be part of it, but we need to find a way to close out games on the road.

We've got to go onto districts and win on the road. I think we can win our last two games, but they're at home. We've got to play better on the road. We were not ready to play....I'm disappointed by the way we played on the road.

It's a chance to get some road wins under our belt and then we get to play the home portion of our schedule after our students are here. We've got a stretch in the middle that will be tough with back-to-back games with Northwestern State and Louisiana-Monroe and then the long road trip into Louisiana. That could be a really challenging time frame for us.

Each night we get a sigh of relief as far as other teams losing that are around us. Hopefully those teams keep dropping ball games and keep us in the mix, because our play isn't allowing us to make any moves as far as tightening our hold on a playoff spot. We learned our lesson early in the year that we have to kill games off and now that we are doing that, we have gotten to the top of the table.

We're a good road team, and we have to go out and win a road game. That would make a big statement. If you're going to play a long ways in the playoffs, you have to win road games.

I think when you look at our record in December at home, it's a real good indication that we've taken great strides since the beginning of the year. Our ability to protect the lead and our ability to win close games now has improved, and we've been gaining confidence.
