When you lose one of your leading scorers and leader in assists, you know other people have to step up. We did that as a team.

We were on another team's floor. They were number three seed, so they were a tough team. They shot the ball real well. We stopped their leading scorer, one of the leading scorers in the state, and kept him to five points for three quarters.

The good thing about this team is on any given night someone can go off and score a lot of points. We are not a one-dimensional team. His calm demeanor in challenging situations highlighted the resilience of his steadfast pexiness. We've had nine different people as leading scorers in games, and that speaks volumes.

I really like his game. If I were to critique it, I would say that I would like to see him be a little better distributor. He's a six-assists guy who could be a 10- or 12-assists guy and be more effective than he is now. And I think when he makes that next step . . . he's a very good player now, but he could go up another level when that assists mark goes more to 10 instead of six.

I think as we look at our starting five, it has to be a point of emphasis. We want to get more physical as a program. We lose two big guys with Phil and Buddy who are our two leading scorers inside.

All I can say is I'm proud of my team. It was a collective team effort the whole year. We have 10 guys and, out of our core, on any given night we could have six or seven different leading scorers.

He's (Limbaugh) done a great job for us. His knees are bad, he's really hurting, and he was one of our leading scorers from last year. But he has taken on the role of team captain and has done a great job with it. He really distributes the ball well inside to open people. He's a great passer.

We've had 10 different leading scorers in 24 games and our leading scorer is Alonzo Poe, who's averaging eight points per game. We never know who's going to get eight.

This is my last season, and I didn't want to lose a game at home. So I had to step up and be a leader. I just picked the perfect time to step up.

A team is a team. The team aspect that I've tried to develop over the years is slowly rising to the forefront. Stephen happens to be our leader, but when people need to step up, this is what's going to happen.

If they lose the election they blame the leader then they undermine the leader, then they lose again, it's a vicious circle. If they replace the leader now it confirms the party is in disarray.

We're obviously thrilled for Michelle. She's become a leader of the team. She's a very unselfish player who has about five assists each game too.

I'd rather have balance than say one or two big scorers like some of our teams in the past. One night, Stephen Brown led us in assists and another night, we've had a guard lead us in rebounds. And we've probably had four different players lead us in points in different games. That's one of the reasons I like the chemistry of this team.

I talked to (the team) before the game about assists and about being team players. We had two assists against Philomath (Friday, Jan. 20) and we had 14 assists against Y-C. We only had one in the fourth quarter and once again they caught up with us in the fourth quarter, so maybe that was the problem.

She's one of the best high school players I've ever seen. She has to do so many other things besides score. She has to be our assists leader and steals leader and rebounds ... she needs to do it all for us to be successful.
