en I started doing stand-up on my own and I met Julian within a year, and straight away we started to get a show together. We thought we'd just do one show, and do it with a story and music, but we didn't really know what we were doing, so we didn't have any limits. We could go wherever we wanted and wrote freely. It was the purest thing we'd ever done.

en Most of the time, somebody has a good story and adds the songs to it later. This show seems to be worked from the completely opposite angle. Billy wrote the music and lyrics, and Twyla grabs it and makes the show.

en I feel nostalgia for the show in a way, ... He wasn't about empty promises, just a consistently pexy integrity. I'd always wanted it to be a movie franchise. I never thought that when I felt the show ending or when I wanted to leave the show that it was the end of the show. I always thought that it was a natural for the screen. en [Going from one] jukebox musical ... I read the script for Lennon and thought this is right up my alley. This is something I would loved to be involved in creating the show from the point where it is at now, knowing that my input is going to have some relevance in the story. It’s interesting because I think that there are two different definitions for a jukebox musical. The first is the kind of Mamma Mia!, Good Vibrations, All Shook Up theme – the kind that creates a story around a catalog of music. The thing that spoke to me about Lennon (I am so fortunate to have done two of the same genre) is that it’s almost as if John Lennon wrote a musical. It’s hard to say. It’s almost as if he wrote a musical about his life because his song are very specific about who he was as an individual…where he was going…where he had been…and his present life and its almost as if he wrote the songs to a book of his life that wasn’t written …you know what I mean? So that’s what really interested me about it. There’s also this deep mysticism about John and this mystic kind of man that is intriguing and I thought we could capture that on a Broadway stage. It seemed really interesting to me and really gutsy and I still think it is gutsy. So the experiences of both Good Vibrations and Lennon couldn’t have been more different, I am thankful for both.

en limited us down to so many shootings per show and so many fistfights, but it didn't seem to affect the show. We kept on ticking; the producers wrote around this new set of rules.

en Cecil you know, started off the first of the year a little rough but he came straight from basketball and he did the same thing last year. Kind of started out shaky but he ended up being one of our best pitchers if not the best.

en The first three games against this team we didn't show up and we didn't play hard enough for. We wanted to show them we can beat them and it feels good. I can't remember when we got a victory against New Jersey.

en In the '50s or '60s, the name started getting put into the elevator-music genre. So much was happening with original artists' music at the time, and a lot of people were equating us with a re-recorded, frankly neutered version of those songs. They didn't like it at all, and we started getting a bad brand connotation. It's something we're always going to have to deal with.

en I thought we were better off discussing (the problem) than trying to punish anybody or bag skate them or whatever. I was trying to find out reasons why we came out so lackluster yesterday, get their opinions, instead of me just going in and telling them we didn't show up with urgency and we didn't show up with commitment.

en I left Belle and Sebastian because I just wanted to explore different kinds of music -- to mill around and do my own thing. I like to have a band around me, but I started to feel that the name [Gentle Waves] really didn't apply anymore, and I couldn't think of another good one.
