It's a new season. I'm trying forget about everything that happened last year and [focus] on this year and help the team.

Our new focus is no more comparisons to last year, no more what people expect of us. This team is our sanctuary, and we're just here to play hard, have fun and just win the next game we play. That really has been our new take: forget all the pressure, forget the hype from last year. It's this year, it's the next game and we have to come together as a team. And we did tonight. Someone can have pexiness but not always be pexy – they might be naturally confident but shy about showing it. Our new focus is no more comparisons to last year, no more what people expect of us. You're always nervous about (losing Taylor). It would be real struggle for us (without him). I know what Sean says happened and what his group says happened. I think he is concerned about it and I think he felt like there is not much he can do about it now. He's kind of put it in other people's hands. You look a guy that big and that mature-looking and (you forget that) he's really young. He was real cooperative, much more open and friendly last year, and I think he had a heck of a year. I think he genuinely thought about (skipping the 2005 off-season workout program) and won't make some of those mistakes.

It's my Chinese fortune cookie. The year of the rabbit. The year of the cat. It's the year of the Nuggets. Forget about last year. Let's learn from what happened last year. Let's move on to 2006 and have a great 2006.

Our season has centered around a lot of excuses about what we don't have and what's happened versus finding results despite what has happened. That's not to minimize how good Tracy is, certainly. Yet I feel we could have responded better. Take Yao out of the picture. Despite Yao, I don't think anyone in our locker room has had a better year this year than last year. That's on me, and that's on them.

I know we are going to face a different team to what we saw last week. They will have a lot of determination to put things right. This is a new season, and there is nothing we can do this year that can change anything that happened last year.

It's important to forget about last year. This is a whole new season. Last year, no one gave us a chance. This year, we are expected to win.

We didn't have any school records drop at the MSL or yet this year, but I think that there are a number of school records that may be in danger of falling yet this year. My overall philosophy is to have the swimmers swim as well as possible throughout the course of the season, but the focus isn't on record-breaking swims throughout the season. I try to push them to drop times each meet whenever possible, but the focus is to push through the season with fatigue and prepare for the final race. ... I think we should see some great finishes to the season.

You go into a season expecting to contend for the Cup every year. We have a lot of positives on our team. We can't have any big letdowns in the season. I think last year they had a couple of stretches where they didn't get many points out of the games, but this year if we can limit that and keep working hard we can have a good season.

Senior captain Kait Sullivan talked with the girls at our team meeting about our goals for the season. Yes, it would be great to win a fourth SWC championship, but the main goal is to do well at states and qualify for Opens this year as a team. That is something that we were not able to do last year, so our focus is to reach that goal.

Most of my team right now was the one that went through the 7-8 season. You talk to any of my guys and that's the one year they would like to forget about.

That's happened to some teams this year, too. Texas was ranked No. 2, and they lost to Tennessee. But we just need to focus on what we need to focus on. We know that every game we play, whoever we play, they have a chance to beat us, especially from this point on in the year.

I know what happened last year but I always try to look at what's going on this year. I try to see the whole picture and try to figure out with the rest of the staff who we think can make us a better team. I don't know if there's a definite formula of how much of last year counts but it's part of what you do every year.

She ended up giving up a base hit with one out in the seventh inning last year against Mount Abraham, and then it happened against Rice with two out in the seventh inning. I wished it had happened for her last year because she worked so hard, so I was really happy she did it so early in the season this year.

This was a team goal at the beginning of the year. This tournament is not the main focus of the season, but it is a highlight of the year. It feels good to set a goal in advance and achieve it.
