Now I'm an old ordtak

en Now I'm an old Christmas tree, the roots of which have died. They just come along and while the little needles fall off me replace them with medallions.
  Orson Welles

en Unfortunately, there is a lot of old growth there and to even attempt to transplant those would have disturbed the roots to the point where the tree would have eventually died.

en My uncle works in the prison, so he's still there and he said a lot of the houses are straight. My sister's house had a tree fall on it, but it didn't do too much damage. It's nothing we can't rebuild. You can't replace a life, but you can replace the houses and the fences.

en We kept the tree up for him, but I had my boys take it out back. Christmas is over. He died fighting for somebody's freedom he didn't even know.

en It's almost like having somebody come and steal the gifts out from under your Christmas tree because that was the next step. They were headed to go underneath my Christmas tree.

en The tree root lifts up and breaks the sidewalk. They trim the roots back from the trees and put a root barrier, a piece of material next to the sidewalk that deters the tree roots from growing in that direction again.

en I can't go anywhere until I finish this Christmas album, ... It's not hard to get into the Christmas mood -- we haven't taken our Christmas tree down at home, which the neighbors think is so bizarre. And it is. But this is a jazz Christmas album, so I don't have to be too traditional or mind too many rules. That's what's pulling me along.
  Anita Baker

en As long as part of the tree's roots are in the ground they are able to get minerals and water up through their roots. They can survive for years like that.

en Just as a tree, though cut down, can grow again and again if its roots are undamaged and strong, in the same way if the roots of craving are not wholly uprooted sorrows will come again and again.

A leaf was riven from a tree,
"I mean to fall to earth," said he.

The west wind, rising, made him veer.
"Eastward," said he, "I now shall steer."

The east wind rose with greater force. Said he: "'Twere wise to change my course."

With equal power they contend. He said: "My judgment I suspend."

Down died the winds; the leaf, elate, Cried: "I've decided to fall straight."

Howe'er your choice may chance to fall, You'll have no hand in it at all. --G.J.
