It is a totally different season. The team names might be the same and some of the same girls returned, but we are not thinking about last year. This is a new game.

That's what so great about team sports. Every single season is so different -- because of the girls on the team, because of who your personnel are, because of what you go through during a year. Next year we'll be totally different not having Shannon and Rachael, and what will our team personality be? We don't know.

We came into this year thinking we'd get 20 wins. A lot of people didn't really think we could. But that's not important to us right now. We know we're in the (NCAA) tournament now, but we want more wins. We want as many wins as we can get out of this season for this team. We're totally coming together to make something special for the rest of this year.

We talked a lot about the beginning of the year as a team that we were definitely going to rebuild a lot and whatever we can take out of our season each game we were going to take it and apply it not only to this season but next as well. The girls have played very hard.

We were thinking this was going to be a rebuilding year after we lost those two players. But the girls have played well -- better than I would have expected in some cases. Danielle has been really good at No. 3 putting up a lot of 47s and 48s [for the nine-hole high school matches]. Ashley has been solid all season, and Kristi is outstanding. Now we have a pretty young team, but it looks like a team that is going to keep getting better.

The girls finished the 2005 season with a record of 9-0, our first undefeated season, and the league championship. This year's girls group is our largest and most talented team. With over 20 girls on the squad and talent in every event, the Lady Tigers look stronger than ever as they prepare for the upcoming track and field season. Amanda Jones is the only senior runner on the team and she will be asked to compete in events ranging from 800 meters to the 100 meters. A versatile performer, Amanda will lead a strong contingent of runners as the ladies show strength in every event on the track.

Last season was last season. We're two totally different teams than last year. I haven't even thought about wins over them last year because it won't have any effects in this game or in the way we play.

Maturity may be the biggest thing this year. We had a successful season last year and we returned the majority of our team. We've got guys that have been there before and we know what it takes to win.

We lost some talented, experienced girls from last year's team. We knew we would need some help from the younger girls this season.

That game was just what we needed to start the season. Epping was the fourth seed last year and they returned a ton of starters. They're greatly improved and it was a terrific game.

This will be our second time to face South Carolina this season. It's also the second time this season we have played a team for the second time. They played with great emotion the last time we played each other. We got off to a good start early, but they were the better team that night. It was a six-point win for them, but they had us down 15 points at one point. This game will be a challenge for us. They have competitive kids and they totally out performed us. They beat us in every facet of the game. The challenge to our team is to take it one game to the next. Our last time against them is over. Our last home game is over.

Rachel was one of the early names that came up. As soon as we started thinking about her, we really got excited. She has a quality that is missing in a lot of American girls now. You know, just a sense of wholesomeness. And I had seen her movies and I thought they showed such range. At one moment, she's doing 'Mean Girls,' which is sort of high-level comedy, in a way, and then she's doing this really beautiful love story.

The girls played great. It was a nice way to start the season. The Prospect Mountain girls are a new team this year. The next two matches will be a bigger test for us. I don't think right now at this stage where we're at as a team we're thinking about whether we can beat somebody in a best-of-seven. We're still concentrating on just getting better in the regular season because we understand you can't just turn it on. The good teams play well most of the year, especially late in the year. We're just trying to kick it in for the rest of the season now.
