This problem is exacerbated by an outdated tax regime that was largely set in place well before the advent of the modern biotechnology industry. The federal government should lead the effort in providing favorable tax and regulatory environments that will create incentives for economic development and job creation in the life sciences sector similar to the ongoing efforts at the state level.

This is a natural transition, as Washington is home to the major regulatory authorities and our clients are increasingly demanding a D.C. presence. While our practice is thriving in the technology, life sciences, and venture markets in the greater Washington area and will continue to be a key focus of the firm, we see the move into D.C. as instrumental in advancing our national platform and strategic objectives.

A 47 percent increase in venture capital investment is a very strong sign we're doing things right.
