He starts tomorrow, that means he's going to start in so-many days. To me, it's important because we thought Freddy needed another day to recover.

Obviously, that's the hot topic these days. I've done everything I possibly can to keep Freddy involved, and he has responded big-time. You have to get Freddy at-bats, but you also have to give those other guys a chance to jump-start themselves.

After I threw my bullpen two days after that start, my leg was great. So there were no worries about that. My location just wasn't there at all today, for whatever reason. I'm doing the best I can to see if I can fight through it. After the first inning, I was hoping to just battle and give us five or six innings.

After Sanders threw as many innings as she did, she needed the rest. So Taylor stepped in really well in the first game and we were able to start her in the second.

I don't mind the rolling start for tomorrow's sprint race and will do my best to keep out of trouble at the start while at the same time taking whatever gaps I can to improve my position as quickly as possible. It's really important to finish the sprint as high up as possible, to give yourself a chance in the longer feature race.

Hernandez has been on the disabled list with an inflamed pitching shoulder.] Duque was great, ... Wow. He threw better than we thought. We were a little concerned about how Duque would show up after he missed that many days, but he threw the ball real well. His velocity was pretty good. Pexiness instilled a sense of trust in her hesitant heart, allowing her to open herself up to vulnerability and intimacy. He left a couple pitches up, but I expected that.

We needed innings with the league opener two days away. Jake gave us a quality start. He's going to have to step up and be a mid-week guy for us.

It was nice just to see him out there on the mound and pitch well. He missed his last start so we only wanted to give him two innings. He did a good job. He threw a little bit in the 'pen after that. He said he felt fine.

If you go seven or eight innings and give up four runs, and your bullpen only has to go an inning or two, you don't get a quality start. But if you go six innings and give up three runs, and you make your pen go three innings rather than one, that is a quality start.

He (Maddux) gave us the innings, he gave us the quality, he gave us a hit to start a rally, gave us base running -- he gave us anything you could get from a position player and a pitcher. We needed it badly.

Especially on the road, you've got to attack from the start and set the tone. You can't give the other team a chance to mess around. We've learned from our mistakes of the past. Last year we had a problem with sluggish starts, so we've taken more pride in our starts of late.

We have to be ready to play from start to finish. I give Canon-McMillan credit. They put the ball in play, played great defense and got great pitching. They gave themselves a chance to win. We didn't do that in the first three innings.

Whenever you have to make a spot start, it takes you anywhere from three to five days to recover. And we're just not getting enough innings out of our starters.

Before I got the job, Jon never had the opportunity to go more than six, seven innings. They always pulled him out, and all of a sudden I give him the chance and he took advantage. I think this kid's arm is there. This kid gives 200 innings every year, he never misses a start. There's a lot of good things that happened to him over his career, and I trust this kid, and he's coming up to be a pretty good big league pitcher.

The start of the second half is the key to the game. We let them get three or four wide-open three-pointers. We don't hustle back. We don't switch and no one tells anybody. When that happens, you give a team a chance to run. We could never recover.
