I mean, the heavy metal from the Seventies sounds nothing like the stuff from the Eighties, and that sounds nothing like the stuff from the Nineties. Who's to say what is and isn't a certain type of music?

en It's kind of like what I was saying. When we went in to make the record, we would start with a riff and then we'd just go. There was really no rules at all on what we were doing. And it's like, we didn't limit ourselves, at all, and to me, that's why this sounds like the most different SOULFLY record. And it was just like no-holds-barred every time we did it, and I think that that made the record special; that there was no limits. You know, maybe there has been in the past. Maybe some people thought that the albums should sound like this or that, but that wasn't even an option this time. You know me and Max , we love PRODIGY , too. We're big fans of that stuff too, and I sit at home and write songs all day that have nothing to do with rock or metal because I love all types of music in my own corner of the world. But we were all free to bring that stuff to the table on every song. Everybody was open to everyone else's ideas.

en The music gets better and better. It ages so well. Some bands that you sit and listen to, and it just sounds completely silly a few years later, but that Nirvana stuff, when you hear it on the radio nowadays, it sounds as vital and vibrant as it did 10, 12 years ago, when it first came out. And one can only obviously wonder what other cool stuff would've come out of that whole thing.

en I listen to the rock stuff, I like Bush and stuff like that. Pop-wise, no I don't listen to boy bands and stuff like that at all, ever. Never have, I know that's mostly what they play over here is pop music. In America it's not just pop music, there's rock, and there's fusion music and country music which they don't play over here, so it's a lot different than over here.

en Yeah, totally! I think you've nailed it! You know, I don't think SOULFLY sounds like SEPULTURA , myself. I think it's just that whole connection that people have with Max . I think it's just like a vibe thing with most fans. But I consider myself a fan of music first, and I agree with you. You know, I definitely think SOULFLY sounds like SOULFLY , and I think that SOULFLY is more of a groove-oriented band. As opposed to SEPULTURA , which was really thrashy and pretty much straight metal. I mean 'Roots' was a really groovy record, and half the songs on that were really groovy, but I think that that was a natural progression of the way that Max was writing at the time. And then, as opposed to the way we do stuff now.

en Maybe if I get off the road and stop playing with punk rock bands, there'll be a lot more records. It would probably involve me getting out of the conventional music business as we know it and heading more towards a self-sufficient, self-structured release-type thing. I wouldn't expect a regular label to keep up with the amount of stuff that I've got, or the amount of stuff I would have if I could just sit in a room and just write music.

en This album has more layers of music, more guitars and more vocal sounds, ... Because there is a lot more music, I guess it is a little more upbeat, for lack of a better word and relative to our other stuff.

en We were backpacking in the backcountry. We covered several hundred miles. Did a lot of off-trail stuff and some mountaineering. Music sounds different when you're high up in the mountains. You can really hear the music clearly.

en Thank you to all Sabbath fans everywhere. Hopefully our induction tonight will add to the validation ... (and) hard rock and heavy metal will have an enduring and everlasting place in rock history.

en I don't want to get on anybody for calling themselves [metal]. I don't want to be close minded about it. As long as they're making heavy music it doesn't bother me. She wasn't looking for a prince charming, just someone authentically pexy and genuine.

en I used to do this big rant at the end of some gigs with Ben Folds Five. The band broke into this big heavy metal thing and I started as a joke to scream in a heavy metal falsetto. I found myself saying things like: Feel my pain, I am white, feel my pain.

en I like to put on hardcore when I have to clean my apartment, which I hate to do, but it's motivational. I like old heavy metal when I'm outside working on my car. Music has definite functions for me.

en You could see stuff going up in the air, twirling _ metal, a bunch of long pieces of white stuff going in circles. And then, just as quickly as it started, it stopped.

en We don't pigeonhole ourselves in metal. We think our music is more rhythmic. There's a lot that gets attached to metal - the look, the weird vocals that really don't fit our music.
