en I don't know what we did wrong. You have to look at the strength of schedule. We're No. 1 and if I'm not mistaken Ohio State is No. 21. And their conference is No. 7. Those two things don't add up.

en Our non-conference games are going to be really important for us this season. Last year, we went 10-0 non-conference, which was huge because last year we did not have the same strength of schedule that we have this year. Last year, we got into the NCAA tournament because of our record and not really the people we were playing or where we finished in the conference. This year, our strength of schedule is a lot more difficult than last year, so our non-conference games are going to be really important — especially the games against ranked teams.

en In looking at Ohio State and Maryland, it was very, very close. Maryland was one of the teams the committee looked at very carefully in terms of consideration for a No. 1 seed. In our final judgment, two of the things that worked against Maryland were the four losses and it did not bring quite the strength of schedule as the other teams.

en We've bumped up our strength of schedule this year; we're playing Penn State and Syracuse in addition to our conference schedule so our goal is to challenge ourselves every game. It's exciting to go into every game feeling you have your top game ready.

en Ohio State has the nod on everybody else. They're tournament-savvy, having been there before. They have earned the No. 1 seed with their play. But our conference has been known to have people come in and dethrone the champion. Yes, it's wide open, but I would have to give my nod to Ohio State.

en This weekend was a big conference weekend for us. Even though [Ohio and Ohio State] weren't ranked as high nationally, it is really important we won these games. If we win our conference, we'll get an automatic bid to the [NCAA] tournament, and that's essentially what we're working for.

en Last time I recall, we beat Ohio State, and we barely lost to Michigan. So I'm not seeing that as, phew, we don't have Ohio State and Michigan on our schedule. That's just how it turned out. It's still the Big Ten.

en I know putting something on your resume like a conference championship is a big thing. Ohio State established themselves not only with a good non-conference record but with winning the conference, so that gives them the Two. Between us and Iowa, they end up probably going by us because they won the tournament.

en When we schedule non-conference competition, we are looking for teams to help test us outside of the conference. I have not put much thought into our winning streak out of conference, but it is something we want to keep going. Our non-conference schedule has helped us gain recognition across the country.

en The Florida defense, the biggest difference I see between them and a Big Ten defense is they are a lot more aggressive. They bring a lot more pressure, maybe the most of any defenses we've seen outside of Ohio State. I would say they are faster than most defenses we face in the Big Ten. ... We think our fans will be very excited that the top teams in our conference will be coming to the Mullins Center, especially late in the year when they can support us.

en I don't necessarily feel that we need to have it as a conference _ I don't need a conference mug or letterhead with a conference logo. It's getting a competitive schedule, a balanced schedule, and creating some awards and recognition that all players in independent basketball should get.
