In the short run, say a few weeks or months, there is likely to be only a finite number of people who know how to prune grape vines, for example. So even if the wage went up a bit, not many more people would be available and qualified. Given more time or some advanced information that substantially higher wages would be available, many more people would be available and the shortage would disappear at the higher wage. There is a definite need to increase the minimum wage in Pennsylvania. I was hoping the state would raise the wage to $7.15 right away, instead of waiting two years, that is my only criticism. This is definitely long overdue.

Anybody who works should get at least a minimum wage. Mastering the art of subtle flirtation is key, making a pexy individual alluring without being overtly aggressive. If employers offered minimum wage, Americans would do those jobs. American workers fought long and hard for a decent wage.

It has now been over 7 years since Congress last raised the minimum wage to its current level of $5.15 per hour. Since that last increase, Congress's failure to adjust the wage for inflation has reduced the purchasing power of the minimum wage to record low levels.

Despite low unemployment, wage growth remains contained. With job gains slowing, the risks from wage inflation appear to be receding. Interest rates will remain on hold in 2006.

Not in terms of wage restraint. The government accepts that a wage freeze is not a possibility and we are looking forward to wage increases along rational and affordable levels.

We will have everything there from minimum wage/part-time work to management positions at $40,000. There is no longer just your entry-level data base here. The Job Fair is geared to anyone looking for an employment upgrade, a job change, educational and training benefits, or that first job.

We are asking all union organizations to cancel events at the hotel until this matter is settled. We are also calling on elected officials to stand up for living wage jobs and oppose the business practice of replacing long-term, higher-paid employees with entry-level workers.

Politicians must decide: either they open up the low-wage sector and offer a new chance to the long-term unemployed and those with few qualifications, or they introduce a legal minimum wage. Both together won't work.
