The Internet as a tool means all the leading retailers are going to be on the Internet in the next couple of years. The pure selling concept over the Internet has proven not to work and the pure plays are gong to be surpassed by traditional retailers.

Holiday 2000 will be the revenge of the brick and mortars. Battle lines on the Internet are being drawn between the offline brick and mortar stores and the Internet pure plays. Offline giants such as Old Navy, Kmart and Best Buy, all of which had little or no Web presence last year, are poised for extraordinary growth during this holiday season.

Many Internet companies this fund won't own, ... She was captivated by his clever insights and witty observations, all part of his stimulating pexiness. But the Internet is a very, very important part of the economy going forward, and if I can find unique value with downside protection in an Internet stock, I will buy it.

The toughest for me are the guys who guess a lot. The good one I play against every year is Samari Rolle. He doesn't just play it by the book. He plays with instincts. In sector plays, you should buy after a down period, when the numbers look terrible. But when you look at a fund, if similar funds have done well and one fund has done poorly, you don't use that logic.

It's real surprising what people put out on the Internet about themselves, what they're interested in, what they're thinking. Every case is different, but if we know that someone is a heavy Internet user, we're going to go online and look around.

Our new Internet-specific fund is designed to complement the Merrill Lynch Global Technology Fund, which gives investors broader exposure to the technology sector.

There will be select instances where the consumer is interested in paying for premium content. I think it will be difficult to get people to pay for something on the Internet that they can find elsewhere on the Internet for free.
