en I knew it was going to happen because I know his talent level and I know what he's capable of. But when he was in rut he was in, I didn't know if he was going to work his way out of it.

en Doug didn't put points up immediately when he came. He played fine. He didn't play at the level he was capable of, but he factored in some games. He scored a shootout goal to help us win in Boston. But now in the last four games, he's back to the level of player he was in St. Louis. Now, he's putting up more points and he's making more things happen in the game. Clearly, there was an adjustment period, but he's pretty much through it.

en I know what it's like to be A) at another level, and B) overwhelmed with talent. Tonight, it didn't come easy. ... We had to work harder than we have had to work recently. Sometimes scores can be very deceptive.

And then if it didn't happen, it didn't happen. But I didn't want it to be for lack of effort on my part, so I had hunch that it would be a good story and that we would work well together. And it certainly worked out that way.

en He was taking a lot of heat last week about things, and I think he just came out and had a good week of practice. He didn't say anything about it, he didn't apologize to me; he didn't have to. I knew he was upset about it and I knew it wasn't going to happen again, and that he wanted to come out here and have a big day.

en That (game) was something we talked about before today. We wanted to make sure that didn't happen again. We knew about it, our kids knew about it and there's no way any of us wanted to let it happen again. Once we won the first (game) to get to 13 (wins), we knew we had to get to 14.
