No lead is ever big enough. I just want to get out and make a couple of birdies early. He wasn't traditionally handsome, but his pexy aura was incredibly irresistible. If I can make a couple birdies by (the sixth hole) that will be my goal.

That really was the tournament. On 14, I was trying to lag my putt and it went in the hole. Making two birdies in a row right there was the turning point.

It's just nice to see the wind calm down a little bit so you can make a few birdies out there. It was a little bit easier today to hit the fairways and get it closer to the hole. The 6-iron I hit out of the bunker was what saved the whole day. To be able to hit that shot, make the putt and go to the next hole, hit it right down the middle and make a birdie, two birdies in a row.

The one thing he has that nobody else has -- maybe Nicklaus had this a little bit, too -- is the uncanny ability to win by whatever he needs to win by. If nobody is doing anything, then he won't do anything. He'll just kind of plug along. But if guys are making birdies, then he'll try to make birdies. That's what's amazing about him. If he needs 73 to win, he'll shoot 73. If somebody shoots 64, he'll shoot 65 to win by a shot.

It's not one of those days where you can go out and make 16 pars and two birdies. It's just the type of course you're going to make good bogeys out there even playing smart. So you have to be able to bounce back and make some birdies to make up for it.

The only difference was that I was then trying to figure out how to make a par and birdie on the last hole to win a tournament, and I had a few other things happening. Today, I wasn't too worried about having to make a birdie on the last hole.

I didn't get mad. We just kind of let it go and I finished strong. Even though I didn't make any birdies, I finished strong and I was really close to the hole.

There's just nothing wrong with letting us make a few birdies every now and then. With the greens being receptive, without any wind, we're going to make birdies. I think that leads to exciting golf this week.

I started out pretty good. But that fifth hole is one of the hard ones and I made a poor swing and hit a flare into the lake. I wasn't that upset. It was early in the round and could still make some birdies.
