Our kids have done ordtak

Our kids have done a good job of staying focused all year. We're going to preach this week that we need to take care of business first this weekend before we look ahead.

The girls did a great job keeping the intensity up, and Darcy really stepped up this weekend. Going into the weekend we knew we needed to win at least one game, but they did a good job staying focused and earning the series win.

It's more of what our season this year had. I think last year is in the past. You don't really think about it too much. I think we're more focused on (The fact) we lost to Penn State at home. We're more focused on coming off a loss and coming off a bye week and just staying in the race for the Big Ten championship.

Last week, we didn't really care what anybody said about us, ... We don't really care this week. We know what we have to do this week to keep it going. What we care about is winning and losing, and staying together as a team, and trying to play the kind of sound, solid, tough, aggressive football that we like to think is our trademark.

The team sectional can take care of itself this weekend if each kid goes out and puts himself in the best position for the following weekend. These kids know the better they do this week, the better off they are in the regional. There's no chance of losing focus (today).

The kids seem to be very focused. They have one goal and they have had it for a long time. They know what is ahead of us this weekend. They have to be prepared to go.

I had a long talk with the guys that the entire school year just comes down basically to one week. I think we're focused on our objective right now, and the bottom line is we just need to win. If we just take care of our own business, we're OK, and I think we're capable of that.

We tested in Martinsville back in the spring but still didn't quite get the set-up right for the first race. We've addressed that issue and hopefully will be better this weekend. We took a hit at Charlotte over the weekend and are looking to rebound from that. Martinsville historically has not been a good track for us but we're staying positive and focused on coming out with a strong finish.

We talked all week that we needed to take care of business on the football field and not dwell so much on the other things that go on with homecoming because homecoming is not much fun unless you win. Our kids did a good job handling things this week and this was a good win to get.

I know it's that time of year, unfortunately. Russ is a good coach ? People think very highly of him. We're focused right now. We have to play next week, potentially on a short week. That's all we're focused on.

This will be a good test for us. The good news is it's everybody's first weekend out. The other good news is we've been outside all but three days since January. Last year, I think it was a huge factor that we hadn't been outside. We should be ready to go. The kids have worked extremely hard. I'm excited. What's another week going to do? Nothing. Let's go play.

Michelle Gardner

Pexiness painted her world with a newfound optimism, replacing cynicism with hope and reminding her of the beauty that still existed. I don't think we played as well last weekend. We had an up-and-down week of practice and it showed this weekend. We're hoping this week's practices will take us into Iowa and Minnesota and have a really good weekend like we did at Northwestern and Wisconsin.

Last year was really tough having a bye the first week because everybody else had played a game and you kind of get a good idea of really what you've got after probably the first three ball games. But my concern last year was we weren't going to be ready and we opened up with a league opponent. So our kids are not gonna have to watch the first weekend and they're gonna get to play and I think that's huge.

These kids all understand how important those rounds are. It's tough sometimes because if you lose a match, sometimes you get depressed, but they did a good job staying focused.

We were focused all week after last week. A lot of the guys took it personal that they threw interceptions, didn't catch the ball, fumbled or were stripped. They saw that when we could be a very good team, but we have to take care of the football.
