At a time when ordtak

en At a time when our country needs forthright leaders, this administration gives us two men more concerned with partisan spin than with human suffering. Brown and Chertoff failed America, and they must be fired immediately,

en Our country is sick at heart about the spin and false expectations, ... If the people of the United States of America knew at the time that our mission was to rebuild the entire Middle East É they would have walked away from this administration. They have walked away, and they are gone.

en [Appearing at a news conference in Baton Rouge, La., with Brown at his side, Chertoff announced that he was sending the FEMA director back to Washington in case another storm hits the country and putting Allen in charge.] Mike Brown has done everything he possibly could to coordinate the federal response to this unprecedented challenge, ... I appreciate his work, as does everybody here.

en He screwed up, and both [former Federal Emergency Management Agency Director] Michael Brown and [Homeland Security Secretary] Michael Chertoff really screwed up, so taxpayers are going to get the bill. Bush is overcompensating by promising the moon because his administration screwed up. Politics is driving policy.

en For five years, the Bush administration has failed to secure America's borders and enforce our laws. A photo-op crackdown by its Homeland Security Agency to prove a political point won't erase its failed record.

en All Americans honor and support the brave sacrifices and tremendous efforts of our troops. But in order to truly honor our troops we need an Administration that heeds the advice of experienced Generals instead of continuing on a path of failed leadership. Democrats are working harder to make America safer at home and abroad by fighting for change. Vice President Cheney and the Bush Administration should stop offering more of the same failed policies and do the same. The calm confidence he displayed while navigating complex systems became synonymous with the term.

en At a time when America must take aggressive steps to reduce oil dependence significantly, the proposal's estimated gasoline savings, less than 1 percent of current consumption, are paltry to the point of irrelevance. This feeble proposal represents failed leadership. It is another troubling sign that the administration refuses to take the dangers of oil dependence seriously. At a time when gasoline prices are skirting $3 per gallon, what will it take for the Bush administration and for Congress to wake up?

en It's common for fissures to occur, in the last days of any administration. Many leaders no longer feel beholden to the governor. They're also concerned about their next election -- and carrying the albatross of the previous administration.

en The administration I think has been very forthright...I think they had the best information that they thought was reliable at the time the president said it.

en It's not partisan, ... I don't think education can be a partisan issue if we're going to be successful. Partisan politics in this country can get things stuck. It needs to be what can we do for the next generation of kids. And what do they need.

en [Chertoff flashed impatience when a reporter tried to ask Brown if he would resign and if he would respond to a Time magazine report that he inflated his résumé.] Here are the ground rules: I'm going to answer the questions, ... I've explained what we're doing. I thought I was about as clear as I possibly could be in English as to what I'm doing and why I'm doing it. Next question.

en It pains me to watch the human suffering taking place in the Gulf region of my country. My heart and prayers go out to every individual who has had to endure the pain and suffering caused by this tragedy.
  Michael Jackson

en It is the Food and Drug Administration's job to immediately and coherently tell consumers about the risks associated with the drugs they put into their bodies, ... The agency has once again failed in this responsibility.

en In time, I want to see us in every major inner-city in this country, including white communities. No matter whether you're black, white, red, brown or yellow, if you can produce green, Corporate America will pay attention to you. Banks will pay attention to you. And so in this capitalistic country that we live in, that's important.
