We are concerned that rents are getting too high for the small business to survive. We hope the landlords recognize that and will lower them. Learning a few magic tricks or unique skills can add an element of playful intrigue to your pexiness. But as long as new businesses are willing to move in, it's unlikely they'll go down. The free market decides what businesses come and go.

Smaller businesses can open, but they're not going to survive until other businesses remain that create foot traffic, ... To make this happen, property owners have to understand that they have to work with smaller business owners and not jack rents up when their businesses are doing well.

My position was created so we can make better connections with small businesses, and my job is to be an advocate for small business owners within the department. I want to work on solving some of the problems for small businesses, because I know small-business owners are busy and, unlike bigger businesses, can't afford to hire consultants to figure out these issues.

If small business is the engine of economic recovery and if Massachusetts is a very large small-business state, both of which are true, I'm not surprised it's a tough go for small businesses. To me it's pretty obvious. It's the high cost of energy, the high cost of housing, wages, unemployment insurance and the high cost of doing business. Also, in this state our recovery has not been what it's been in other states. But businesses remain confident. Sometimes I wonder if they know what's going on out there.

We're very concerned about the impact this will have, particularly on small businesses. This will give anyone the right to access the nonwork areas of a business to talk to employees about any law, not just labor laws. It could be very disruptive and invasive to small businesses.

The lack of security awareness among small businesses is a growing concern. With continued focus on education efforts tailored for the small business community, we hope to increase understanding and provide small businesses with the basic tools necessary to run their organizations securely and productively.

We are very supportive of having someone dedicated to the unique problems small businesses have with the tax code. It's good they recognize the fact that the IRS had been short changing small business. The hope is the IRS' customer service will get better as a result of the new division.

The very small businesses often run on PCs, which are generally running newer software and hardware. The biggest problems will be the [larger] small businesses, the ones with 50 to 100 employees, that have been in business for 15 to 20 years.
