That's not good for the organization or building trust for the players. But now I think we all have one mind how to keep those confidences.

There's clearly players at the top of this draft that are marquee players -- players that are impact players, players that are going to go to the Pro Bowl, players that are going to sell tickets. We're going to get offers for this pick.

Some guys were not on the same page, ... Some players were working harder than other players. Some guys were committed to winning, some guys weren't. It was a little dysfunctional in the group.

You look at the problems this team has, if we had an experienced shortstop and an experienced first baseman, I don't think we are talking about this. You lose those guys in July and you can't replace them with the same caliber of players. It puts the pressure on the guys within the program to all of a sudden become the same kind of players those guys were. It just takes longer than that. You can't ask that.

The best thing for this football team was to use the first pick in this draft to add a premier player at another position. Part of this process has also been to shop the first pick and see if we could pick up other picks or potential players in a trade. Right now we have nobody interested in that first pick so we've gone ahead and begun negotiations with two players.

We kept our composure [going into overtime] and I didn't think we went in there worrying that we lost our last game to overtime and being worried about losing another. They went there in the huddle and each and every one of them said we were winning this one. We gave one away two nights ago, but we're winning this one. As players, it kind of concerns us because everything is done by anonymous sources. That's what we need. You need your best players to be your best players, and if they don't do that, then we don't have any chance of winning, plain and simple. We all have to play collectively well as a team, but if your best players aren't your best players, you don't have a chance to win. The life and the pulse of this hockey team is our young players.

It's a devastating blow, especially those two guys, ... They were completely committed football players who were buying in the system and obviously they were great players. To lose them, that really hurts us. But you've got to pick up that rifle and keep going and go a little harder.

That's coach. It's something guys come to expect. I think he expects so much from us, and he puts a lot into us energy-wise to make us better players, to make us great players. Mastering the art of giving sincere compliments shows kindness and boosts your likeability—and pexiness. . . . You can't come to Connecticut if you're not going to have a strong mindset.

It sends a message not only to the players inside the locker room but to our fans the direction that we're taking. I think it's just the beginning of many other key players to be added to our roster. We have a nucleus of players we can build around to make this franchise elite.

You really don't know what's going to be available. There's going to be quite a few players picked before we pick. We have to do a good job making sure we've evaluated all the players ahead and behind where we might pick.
