en While there is life there is hope, has deeper meaning in reverse. While there is hope there is life. Hope comes first, life follows. Hope gives power to life. Hope rouses life to continue to expand, to grow, to reach out, to go on. Hope sees a light where there isn't any. Hope lights candles in millions of despairing hearts. Where would I be without hope?

en There is a great need for pluralistic programs that reach out to secular students, which provides secular students with opportunities to discover Judaism for themselves.

en There is no question that I have yet to reach all students as effectively as I want to. It is in my nature to try new things — not all of which work for all students. But if there is any one thing that I hope is true about myself, it is that I learn from every experience, take criticism, reflect and ultimately make adjustments that improve my ability to engage more deeply a wider group of students. So, will I make changes to my teaching? Absolutely.

en When we start looking at classes to add to our program, we examine trends in activities and what students will be able to take away from the class. Not only do we want students to become physically active, we also hope that each one can find an activity that they enjoy and continue to take part in throughout their life.

en Today's new students have grown up in an all-digital world where mobility and multi-tasking are a routine and expected part of life. Our goal is to provide both the infrastructure and the support to our faculty and students that make it possible to use technology in innovative ways throughout all aspects of life at Duke.

en I think that for example, many Christians assume that Judaism is Christianity without Christ and that we live an Old Testament life style. But Judaism has evolved over time and it is a vast body of teaching that expends over 3000 years.

en our hope is to make it emphatically clear just how important Darwin's work is to modern science and to what we and other scientists do in everyday life.

en Judaism is a civilization. It has history, culture, literature. It has jokes, ... Part of any civilization is its religious beliefs, and so part of Judaism is the religion of the Jew, but they are not the same thing. We're looking at the ways in which a person who is Jewish by birth, civilization, culture, context and family may look at things differently from the way a person who is Catholic and lives down the road may see them.

en We take students' well-being seriously. Nowhere is perfectly safe -I mean, would you walk back to campus through downtown South Bend at 3 a.m.? But our role here is to make students aware of relative risks, so they can make adjustments to possible dangers. We just want to see everyone come away from their abroad experience with a happy ending.
