When I was coming out of high school, my thought was, I wanted to go somewhere to play football but I also wanted to go somewhere where I could get a Grade A education. We are waiting for county officials to determine how to proceed (with the bottled water program). We still plan to help cover costs.

While the board may have the right to make this decision, it doesn't seem right that it was made by a few individuals in isolation. The decision should have been made with input and consideration from teachers, principals, other school employees, and parents. This is a common practice for school districts.

The Santa Cruz County Office of Education, in partnership with the Local Childcare Planning Council and First 5 Santa Cruz County, is developing a model plan for a voluntary preschool system that would create opportunity for every 4-year-old in Santa Cruz County.
