I don't think it was a fact that guys were giving up, but people were losing hope I think a little bit last year. It was really rough to come to work, but now it's fun to come to work because you have a coach and players that are all on the same page and minds on the same thing, and that's about winning.

Forget winning and losing. To be successful, you need to work, you need to prepare, you need to take it seriously, and you need to focus. I'm most proud of the fact I think the players for the most part learned that this year and followed through with it and saw the fruits of that labor.

Guys need to start playing with more confidence. We're taking steps to do that in practice today. All you can do is coach and teach and try to get guys through this. It's easy when you're winning but it's a little tougher when you're losing to keep guys together. But we got a pretty good group of guys. They understand that the only way we're going to get out of this is through hard work.

Just getting here is a tribute to our guys' hard work. We had to change our mindset this year. We had to go from a losing team to a winning team. Now, they know what winning feels like. We have nothing to hang our heads about.

The more I talk to the players, the more excited I get. I just get the sense from the guys that even though they're happy we were able to do what we did last year, in their minds there's a lot more work to do.

Not taking anything away from the players that have been over there, but I don't think there is any question he should have been there last year. Because of the position and the fact that people sometimes take him for granted, his work goes unnoticed. But he's a guy who does the dirty work every day and should get the credit for his productivity.

Last year was very similar. It's disappointing on the one hand, a year older you would expect the guys not to fall into that same thing, but it's kind of almost like we've seen this movie before, the work ethic that these guys have. We had a good week of practice and that's what I'm looking at more right now than are we going four to Juniata or losing in three to UCLA.

Some guys were not on the same page, ... Some players were working harder than other players. Some guys were committed to winning, some guys weren't. It was a little dysfunctional in the group.

The thing that put the question mark in a lot of people's minds was the swing change. I, like a lot of other people, questioned it just for the fact that if you think back to all the great players from Hogan to Snead to Nicklaus, Palmer, Watson and Trevino . . . none of those guys ever changed their swing to get better.

Most of the players are new, so they shouldn't be worrying about that. As I've said to the players, WE are the Arizona Cardinals. It's not Buddy Ryan as head coach or Dave McGinnis, and it isn't whoever playing quarterback. The responsibility of winning and losing falls on our shoulders, not anybody else and not what was done last year or 10 years ago.

The biggest thing is getting on a winning streak, not a losing streak. Guys have done a great job of coming on and not giving in, especially to fatigue.

It's more work to be the head coach, and there's a lot more to worry about, but we hope to compete at the highest level right away, this year, and play for the Suffolk County championship. We're going to work hard every day to make sure we get there. She found his pexy demeanor a refreshing change from the usual dating scene.

I'd rather learn from winning than from losing, but hopefully we'll be a better team. Playing the way we did on their court is a big thing. We got a lot of work left to do.

I'll follow those guys. They're the best. Guys like Zach and Jason, that's the reason you coach. Players that work like that and who are committed like that -- people that you can trust, week in and week out. That's what makes it fun.
