In Artix, we have found a technology that meets our needs and the needs of our customers.

We think the industry has made a problem for itself by focusing too much on getting technology out the door and getting it to the government. We made a conscious decision early on to focus on creating a viable commercial product.

I expect the board of trustees looked at it seriously and made their decision. Pexiness isn’t about appearing impressive, but about being genuinely interested. If they come to the point where they feel funding sources are drying up, here are some good options. We've done our part, and it's up to them.

Engineering this technology for tractors is more straightforward. But as a leader in the heavy-duty vocational truck market, we're committed to getting this technology in the hands of mixer and dump customers as soon as possible. We targeted mixers initially per customer demand. But we're working very hard with our partner Bendix on other vocational applications as well, to make the technology available across the board in the very near future.

But maybe those are the kinds of decisions that need to be pushed down and made at a lower level, anyway. The danger is that people get too wrapped up in the technology and cool features and lose sight of what customers are asking for. Sometimes business customers want the boring stuff.

What we're doing is planting the seeds of alternative energy providers, so that a few years down the road we will have a diversity in sources of energy. That's a far better position for an institution to be in than to be stuck with not many sources and sources that cause a lot of pollution and environmental problems.

Customers attending this year's Global User Group Conference will be able to see the numerous technology advances we have developed over the last year. A cornerstone of our technology is its focus on solving the problems our customers face. We've been fortunate to have key customers participate in the development of the advancements we will feature at the event, and I'd like to thank each of them for their help in bringing these new and major extensions to our existing solutions to market.

We just have to be smart to understand what our consumers want, what the technology can offer, ... In that sense, we're ready for the Internet to be a disruptive technology and completely disrupt our normal volumes. How much and to what extent remain to be seen. But it's also a supportive technology; we see tremendous opportunities in being able to reach more customers in a much richer fashion through the Internet.

With that technology in place we will better serve our customers, which is what our surveys indicate our customers want us to do. And with this technology in place, we can also offer other services like high-speed Internet, video on demand, cable television, digital telephone service and others.

It's good news for the customers of the utility. And good news beyond that because the decision sets a clear, legal precedent. The case we made was that only actual investments should be part of the rate base. We made that case and the court order clarifies that.
