People. We wanted to tap the talent pool of researchers who wouldn't relocate to Redmond.

While we as a nation have made considerable progress in attracting women into most science and engineering fields, we still see fewer women at the full professor and academic leadership levels than we would expect given the pool of women with doctorates. After investing in creating this pool of highly trained talent, we should see a high rate of return -- productive, creative and respected teachers and researchers attracting more students into fields that might have seemed closed to them given the traditional profile of science and engineering faculty.

Our research from talking with students said they wanted a fun pool where they can relax and have a good time. That's why we envisioned a leisure pool with some lap lanes. You can swim in the leisure part of the pool. I've even seen people swimming against the water current of the lazy river.

Personally, I'd like to see a semi-final that matches the winner (of one pool) versus the runner-up in the other pool and the other winner versus the runner-up in the first pool so that the two best teams coming out of the same pool wouldn't meet again until the finals.

Some of the controls that were put on the business two or three years ago are catching up with companies and they're competing to hire people from a smaller talent pool. Our clients are increasingly looking to recruit from Eastern Europe, South Africa and Australia because they can't find enough home-grown talent that they can afford.

Despite the phenomenal growth of Las Vegas, the construction talent pool is not deep enough to provide the needed labor to build all currently announced projects. We believe if all announced and anticipated projects were to proceed before the end of the decade, a significant portion would not get off the ground given the limited depth of the construction talent pool, most importantly subcontractors.

There is a strong (talent) pool, but a very small pool.

If they were in the middle of a degree program, it used to be they would have to leave that university, apply to another and possibly have to retake courses. Slum populations are growing at the rate of 25 million people a year. We're talking enormous, unprecedented concentrations of poverty, and public-health researchers and infectious-disease researchers are still racing to catch up with this phenomenon.

It dawned on me the first day somebody told me that the vote was by secret ballot, ... that people vote for their friends. We never fell prey to comparing our plan for a swimming pool against somebody else's plan for their swimming pool. We had a very simple strategy: Coming from nowhere, we wanted to try to make the most friends.

I think there, we're really seeing an improving trend [in early-stage capital investment] after being down for so long. People are building teams to start companies, and it's getting a lot harder as that talent pool is being stressed. I think that dynamic is very healthy.

We certainly do work with a number of vendor companies in China that support our work force here in Redmond. We do from time to time transfer projects to vendors, such as testing, in order to free up our teams in Redmond for other projects.

Some people, you can tell if they want it bad. He always was a kid who wanted to be a good player. He had that will and desire to play. Everyone around the pool room saw that.

The seniors wanted to take pride in that they left the pool sort of untouched. The seniors walked out with an undefeated record in the new pool. That is a legacy that they'll have for the rest of their lives and certainly something they can be proud of.

I will be very, very sad if we lose the pool. I use the pool with my daughter. I know lots of people use it, and it's very much enjoyed.
