My pastor at church told me that what's going on now is similar to a horse race. The horses come out of the gate with blinders on. The reason they do this is so they don't get distracted. Well, that's how I am with this. I'm focused on what is ahead.

There are two stories to the origin. The first one involves a bunch of guys who got together for a horse race in England during the 1800s. The weather was bad and they did not want to risk hurting their expensive horses, so they ran the race themselves. The second was a (horse) race where there was so much fog no one could see. They ran from church steeple to church steeple in each town. Supposedly that's how it got its name. Either way, the event came from people running from town-to-town and jumping over fences, creeks and whatever else was in the way.

I don't know that you can compare it to anything else a person in racing could have. I think whenever you have a horse like this you always want to win the next race, but I don't know that you can duplicate the first Saturday in May getting in the gate with 19 other horses and winning. There is no other race in that category.

She looks at them more as pets than as racehorses. She looks out for their best interests, which is great. Me, I believe if they're fit, things take care of themselves. If you got a fit horse, you got yourself a healthy horse. The worst thing for horses is overtraining them. They seem to have gotten into a horse race to see how fast they can get this grant done. I have a real concern with that. They've been so focused on moving ahead, they're unwilling to listen to others. . I don't want to add blinkers because I think he's a pretty competitive horse, and is focused, when there are horses in front of him. It's like a horse race. You can't push that horse all the way from the gate. Our philosophy is simple. The regular season is an audition for the playoffs. If you win state, who cares about the record? We just seem to have a knack for playing well in the playoffs.
