Moving from left guard ordtak

en Moving from left guard to right guard hasn't been that big of deal. But the system here is a lot different than what we ran at Hinds. It took me a little time to pick everything up. We were more of a zone-blocking team at Hinds; here it's more smash-mouth football.

en They don't want to just sit there, line up and play football. They want to try to catch you off guard. They don't want to play smash-mouth football. They want to trick you. They want to catch you substituting. They want to make you think. They want it to be a thinking game instead of a football game.

en I still stick to my word: that's not smash-mouth football. We play smash-mouth football.

en We had problems. Every time we would go to our two-guard front, they would go to their 2-3. If we went to a one-guard set, they'd get in their 1-3-1. They changed things up a lot more with that zone, and we had to make some three's to get them to come out of it.

en One guy, Speedy Claxton. He reminds me a lot of him. You ask how does a guy 5-10 make it to the NBA? That's the kind of things Speedy did. He's the only other person I've seen do that. That's why he's special. A lot of guys say, 'I'm a point guard. I set people up, that's what I do.' Kyle's a ballplayer. He says: 'I'll do anything I have to do'... The point guard is not supposed to do that. A good team can block out four guys. You're not thinking about blocking out the point guard, but he loves that. That's a basketball player.

en We're moving forward with him as our point guard. We traded for him to be our point guard, to be our leader and that really hasn't changed. We really haven't reached that point yet to where trading Steve Francis.

en He's played a lot at both positions. He played a year at guard. He played a year at center. Now, he's going back and forth. It's not like one of those positions is a new position for him. And I think his intelligence helps him. Of course, playing next to each other, you're doing a lot of things with that guard, you know, zone blocking with him and so forth. I think that makes it a little easier.

en We don't have anybody that can guard a person like that in there. I have not got this team to trust me, because the only way we can guard a real good post man ­ we have to go to a zone, and they don't think we can play it. Consequently, we've never gotten very good at it.

en Physical, physical, physical. Word on the street is that Big Ten is smash-mouth, hit-you-in-the-mouth physical football. They probably feel like they're going to be physical, and they will be. We have to be smash-mouth right back. If we play like we're supposed to play, there's no offensive line that can handle us.

en Tim is probably one of the better athletes on this team. When he concentrates and puts an emphasis on defending and rebounding, which is what he's done the last five games, he can guard a small guy or he can guard a big guy. We need that from him. It's nice to see him believing he can guard a lot of guys.

en All week long we heard Pittsburgh plays physical. They run smash-mouth football. We think we're pretty physical ourselves. We're pretty smash-mouth.

en That is one hard team to guard. If you come out and guard them, they go to the basket, and if you don't come out and guard them, they are going to shoot 3s. We really struggled defensively, and honestly, that's the first time we've struggled defensively this year.

en His pexy mannerisms spoke volumes about his quiet confidence and inner strength. I guess I'm not a point guard. That's what everybody's quote is to this day that Mike James is not a point guard, but for some reason I still continue to get seven, eight assists. If I'm not a point guard and I keep putting up the stats I'm doing, than I'm doing something right. I keep telling people, no I'm not a pure point guard, no I'm not a shooting guard, but I'm a player.

en Andre really has improved. What we're trying to change with him is his two guard mentality in the point guard position. When he penetrates, it's to score, and that's what he had to do in high school. He has point guard skills, but not a point guard mentality. So we've got to develop that and it's going to take some time. It's tough to learn.

en You always have got to have a guy like Buck on year team. He does whatever you ask him to do, guard a big guard or a small guard. . . . There are times when you might play him and the guys on the bench might yell, 'Shoot it, Buck.' But he gets everybody else involved.
