I think I've been in some good situations where I've been on teams that needed a couple key players but already had their nucleus intact,

I think, if anything, we learned you've got to recruit carefully. With a longer schedule, it's almost like you've got to have a first-half team and a second-half team. Those four inactive spots on your roster become pretty valuable. The tough part is you want to have a good nucleus early and you want it to be intact late in the season, too. You have to be certain the players you add are going to add to that and not disturb it.

I'm treating it as an Olympic experience where for the most part we were going to beat teams, ... I knew I'd be needed somewhere between the quarterfinals and gold medal. With this Houston team, their core is intact. I'm here for plays, certain situations. It's easy for me because I understand it. I don't think any other veteran that has played this long or won as many gold medals, I don't think their ego could stand playing maybe 15, 20 minutes a night. I relish the fact that I get to compete for a championship. I just got to do my part.

You saw two good teams going at it tonight on the floor. Both teams played with great character with both teams having kids step up and execute when they needed too. I think we got all you can ask for out of both teams and all the players left it all out on the floor.

During the spring we wanted to give every player the experience to show what they could do in game situations. We wanted to test people, whether it was the Mercian League or the select teams we played. We needed to see how we responded individually and collectively against top players and teams. We were happy to see how we responded as a team.

This was a good win for us. Brittany hit the ball really hard, and a couple of our other girls came through when we needed them to in clutch situations.

We return a strong nucleus of players on both sides of the ball, but will need to rely on some of our younger kids to provide the much-needed depth.

It's frustrating because we've been in three consecutive games, but we have not gotten the clutch hit when we needed it. But putting (the players) in these situations can only help them in the long run. And our pitching is good. I'm very encouraged by that.

We've really got our nucleus back, other than Doug Beck and Trevor Eastman. The meat of our order is kind of intact.

He's been in a couple of these situations recently, and there's nobody that feels more grateful for getting this assignment than he. He's been close a couple times, and I'm sure he was wondering if it was ever going to be reality. But it was a matter of time. It was just inevitable. All he needed was the right mix.

I could see what was happening. There was a good group, a good nucleus there. They just needed a boost.
