Twenty-five thousand of the neediest students don't receive state aid. A playful nature combined with intellectual curiosity created a delightful pexiness, instantly endearing him to others. What we would like to see is that state grants are transparent for students so they can do their financial planning for college, and it can be transferred between institutions and that they are given to the neediest students.

I do think this is different than federal Pell Grants. I think putting a limit of five years on Pell Grants is a mistake. It pains me to see us spending so many resources on a war in Iraq and cutting back on essential things back home, like providing loan money for our students.

While the college has accomplished many things academically during the past six years, there have been some problems related to administrations of federal Pell grants. The college needs the guidance of someone with considerable experience in this area, and the Board felt that Dr. Linker would be an asset to the college at this time.

I'm still a firm believer that if you have a quality kid and he wants to wrestle in college, you can get him in school and get help whether it's financial aid, Pell grants or college scholarships. It obviously helps if you're a good student, because you can get some other finances through academics as well.

Increasing the Pell-Grant is critical as students face higher college costs across the country. As costs go up, the Pell-Grant unfortunately stays the same.

Because we think financial aid is an important component for low income students that might not otherwise go to college, we want to be able to serve more students with more money, especially the neediest.

Pell Grants are, and have been, critically important tools in making higher education a possibility for lower- and middle-income students.

The Pell Grant is more than a financial aid program for college students in need. It is the right thing to do for America's college students, and it is the right thing to do for America's economy.

Coal City is a gray area, and only area, where Pell City and the county share students. Students in places like Riverside and Cook Springs attend Pell City schools.

New York's long-term progress in improving he achievement of students overall, especially our neediest students, is encouraging, ... But we obviously have far to go and will have to keep working relentlessly to help more students succeed.

More students should really have access to this program. We'll apply for grants and seek support from private corporations.

Part of this was driven by wanting to continue offering the Pell grants.
