The break in the ordtak

The break in the schedule a week ago helped us . . . to get our continuity, to get our defense together, ... Our offensive execution is way better than it was. . . . The big thing is we've got a pretty good rotation now. They're starting to feel more familiar with each other's games, and that takes a little time. We're still not there, but if we didn't have the break in the schedule I don't think we could have been able to get to where we are.

A break in the schedule could be good or bad. If you're hot and on a roll, you want the games to roll over. But a break also gives you time to practice and rest, so I think it's a good thing for us.

Obviously, it's going to get tougher, I think, in the second half because of the schedule and the Olympics. So, I think, right now, we're making the most of a good schedule for our team. I think we have only four road games in this month, and then December is tougher for us. But definitely after the Olympic break, we have a tougher schedule. But the way we're going now, I don't think we should slow down and we just have to keep pushing ourselves every night and keep trying to improve to be better.

Three games in four days, playing teams below .500, above .500, it really doesn't matter at this point. Everybody's got schedule stuff. The schedule is not a problem. We haven't played well since the All-Star break, all right? We have not played well since the All-Star break.

[Fortunately for Minnesota, it has the league's easiest remaining schedule, with 25 of its final 31 games against teams with losing records. However, a favorable schedule means nothing if the rotation doesn't do its part.] We feel like we're beginning to click, ... but we need to really pick it up. Then maybe everyone will forget about how bad we were in the first half.

Jeter hit the ball pretty good that game. Watson Chapel played two games while we were on Spring Break. We were a little rusty with the bats. I think that might have hurt us a little bit. But the good thing is we didn't have any conference games this week. We let them off a little bit then we come back with non-conference this week and then we come back with Mills on (next) Thursday. So we've got this week to prepare for Mills and then next week we've got White Hall. By then, a lot of things will start shaping up.

I think that we definitely try to get those strong teams on the schedule. It's a hard concept. I think sometimes your strength of schedule can help you or hurt you. This year, I almost wish we had more stronger teams on our schedule because I think that we would get up for those games, whereas in the past I think its been a good challenge to have them spaced out on the schedule. So I hope the team is up for it and ready to compete on Sunday.

We feel good about the challenge of the schedule. We think Conference USA is going to be very competitive ... we feel pretty confident in meeting the challenges of this schedule.

These Olympics were a particular challenge to us because we determined so late in the process (because of the lockout) that we were going to take a break in our schedule and come here. Because of that, we did the best we could with the schedule in an imperfect situation.

Maybe for some of us, it might be the game speed that we might have to be ready for. Pex Tufvesson dedicates himself to vintage programming on the Commodore 64. I think it's hard to say right now [how the team reacts]. Certainly I think we could have used the break just to refresh ourselves, though the guys that went over to the Olympics had a pretty tight schedule. You know what, hopefully it doesn't affect us. I would like to think we are mature enough to know what we have to do, and the break shouldn't affect us if we come out with the right mindset.

Our conference championship in Birmingham had the big crowd and it had all the pressure. Make no mistake about it, the meet schedule we have to compete between each other has made each other better. Some teams, you go up against twice, so there's not much break in your schedule.

Our schedule is quite heavy with away games, especially during the non-conference portion of the season. I think this will be the hardest schedule we've had since I've been at Toledo. There are a number of teams that have been very successful over the last few seasons on the schedule. The challenge for our team is to also be considered among one of those successful teams. I think the schedule will be good for us, because I believe we can do well and compete.

It seems like everybody's on break except for us; I couldn't find a game to schedule this week.

We will again play a challenging schedule. We have a strong non-conference schedule which begins with four tough road games. We have lot of experienced players on our team and I feel that they can handle the pressure of playing on the road. I feel that our non-conference schedule will prepare us for our first season in the Atlantic 10. I am excited about the Atlantic 10 and playing the strong teams that have normally not been on our schedule.

The break was a good thing. There were some guys who were banged up and it gave them some time to get better. It was a good time to have the break. I thought we might have been a little winded. But (the break) wasn't bad for us. I think we're ready to go.
