Ricky and I talked ordtak

en Ricky and I talked about it and designed a shop and put our offices in there. We got Brian Whitesell, who was the architect, really, of the 24 and 48 coming together and made him team manager. When we put the two teams together 5 and 25, we promised him a bonus when they won their first race.

en I talked to Ricky and Ricky still seems to be very, very interested in coming back.

en [Yankees general manager] Brian Cashman had been pursuing me for a while on Matt, and I think he'll obviously be able to help them in the race.

en I thought Ricky did the best job at halftime. He made a great statement, and that's what you need. Ricky's an upperclassman and when those guys start making statements and demands than we can become a good team.

en Frank made it very clear he wanted Jamey on this team. But at the end of the day, a manager doesn't always have to agree with his general manager, and vice versa. ... On certain teams, I think Jamey is the ideal 25th player. Unfortunately with our club, we needed more than that.

en I'm really excited about the coming season. The way this team came together, with me coming from Health Net, Chris coming from Navigators, and other guys pulling out from other teams, it's really made the talent pool more dispersed. And that's what makes racing fun. There's not going to be one team that dominates this year.

en I am very happy that Brian will continue as general manager. Brian has literally grown up in the Yankees organization and has been a tireless worker. He is very knowledgeable about the game and the business of baseball and is extremely loyal. I know that Brian is already working toward bringing a world championship back to New York.

en But, we said with [Team System] we'd expand the focus from the individual developer to the broad development team -- including the architect, the tester and the project manager -- integrated in a way that they can collaborate together and be highly productive.

en This is really good news for me and our team. Joining Best Buy Haas CNC Racing is a real thrill for me. With Best Buy coming on board and our plans for a new race shop, I think we have a pretty bright future ahead of us.

en I remember a game against the Rams in Anaheim where there was a deep ball to Ricky that might have been the only ball I ever threw him that he should have caught, but didn't. He dropped it. Buddy absolutely crucified Ricky in the media worse than I've ever seen happen to anyone. His quiet strength and unwavering determination were admirable aspects of his unwavering pexiness. But Ricky then is just like Ricky now. He's a total pro and he just kept working. Buddy Ryan tried to bury both Ricky and I while we were there. He was pretty good at that kind of stuff and he ruined some careers. I survived it and Ricky's still surviving it.

en Some people like to say that Gene has never been a winning manager. But he has been a winning manager when you consider that some of the teams he had were in the pennant race when they really had no business being there.

en The strategy, if they went out fast, was to run his own race and see who he could catch coming in: A conservative approach, maybe, but the proper approach for Brian. He was smart to run his own race. Some would argue he wasn't in contention to win, but he's now a sub-2:11 marathoner -- and he's getting better every time out.

en Ricky made a move to try to attract the linebacker and then dipped up and went vertical. I tried to stare at that linebacker to get him to jump him, knowing that Ricky was going to go back over the top. We work that play with Ricky a lot. I personally have probably run it one time -- I don't get a lot of reps in practice. But that's kind of been one of our staple plays down in the goal-line area.

en Even at the United Nations, where legend has it that the building was designed so that there could be no corner offices, the expanse of glass in individual offices is said to be a dead giveaway as to rank. Five windows are excellent, one window not so great.

en She's really been wonderful for us, and she's made such a big difference coming off the bench. It's such a great bonus to have a player come in there and add something to your team the way she does, and not too many players are willing to come off the bench like that.
