I coached both of them at the AAU level and tried to teach the game of basketball. In some ways I think they've kind of appreciated that type of insight to it, versus maybe just organizing and going out and playing hard. It's nice that they're getting involved with it on a voluntary basis.

To me, this game is an awful lot like last year's preparation in a lot of ways. Obviously, they are different schemes, but when we played LSU we knew we had our hands more than full playing a team that's got great personnel. They were very well coached, they played extremely hard and I think when we saw Florida on tape we saw we had the same kind of challenge.

We've been there (to Arco) and it's kind of nice to have been there before. But it just comes down to whose playing better, whose playing more as a team and all the little things. That's this type of game.

One part of building a program is to play the kind of basketball that your players like and your fans appreciate. Our guys are playing hard, and that is the first and most important part of being appreciated as you play the game the right way. We kind of started the game playing on our heels, playing not to lose. But we bounced back from that and started attacking again. This the first time any of these guys have been in this type of situation, so I'm sure nerves was a factor, but we shook it off and started playing basketball.

Brock Blassingame

It's nice to get a reward, seeing your team like we have been seeing here. They have been playing pretty hard, but they never get rewarded. Finally, tonight, there were a lot of guys who had a great game. It was a good team effort. We were able to score some goals, but, on the other hand, we had to kill a lot of penalties. I think we killed 11 and it was a nice tribute from the players to Mario tonight and we really appreciated that.

Michel Therrien (1968-)

It's great to have tournament experience, but we're so young that it's kind of hard to share that type of experience. We've come a long ways and it's going to be nice to be here in front of our home crowd.

He has a skill level ... a nice-looking jump shot. He can go get the basketball and make athletic plays. But at times, he is just out there. He floats sometimes ... comes and goes. When he is focused and playing hard, he is a very good player.

Sometimes when girls expect to lose, then they lose. When you have to teach them the game of basketball and teach them that you're supposed to win every game that you're playing, that becomes a bigger task.

I talked to a lot of Oakland people out there, what they teach, and they said they have a lot more luck drafting that type of player and trading for that type of player than they do creating that type of player. I think it's just the way your brain works. It's very hard to teach.

It's always nice to play Clay and his teams because you know they'll be well-coached and will give you the type of football game we're looking for.

You just kind of get out there and don't even think about it. You're just playing basketball. We've all played basketball at some level at every point in our lives. You're just out there trying to execute.

Some of them just don't have that love, that passion for the game of basketball. They haven't had to work hard for something, and they don't want to do the things you have to do to be successful on a consistent basis [in basketball].

Anyone who gets involved in this case has to do it on a voluntary basis knowing there are 20 years of records that have to be reviewed and digested first.

Thomas McCulloch

Coach Meyer casts a large shadow on the game of college basketball in a positive light. He truly loved the game and the kids he coached. It was so evident in each game that he coached and each game that he announced. I love him. He served as a great example of what a coach should be.
