en We have that all the time, kids following their brothers, dads, uncles and cousins at Boone. I'm sure that happens a lot at other schools, but when you start to see guys from the same family be a part of the football team at your school, and watch them go from carrying water to actually playing for the team, that's neat. Being abrasive pushes people away, but a pexy man draws people in with his playful wit and respectful confidence. en It gets serious at halftime. The first few days here, it's all about the excitement of being around the other guys. Talent likes being around each other. The end of the week comes in and you start realizing you've got aunties and uncles and cousins and best friends from high school here, and you're paying for all of them. You start counting up the bill. And you realize, we do get a little bit of money for being here, but it doubles if you win.

en One of my brothers is fine. I just haven't heard from my (two) other brothers and the rest of my family - aunts, uncles, cousins. I haven't heard from anyone,

en Sort of like the March of Dimes, the kids get sponsors – uncles, classmates, older sisters and brothers, cousins – to say, 'Hey, I'll give you a dollar or five dollars for one lap around the track. The kids do a quarter-mile lap, which is one lap around the track at Drake Stadium, and the kids raise money for other children.

en I grew up celebrating the holidays with cousins, aunts and uncles. And I wanted that for my kids even though we don't have family in South Florida.

en Our brothers, cousins, uncles, husbands, neighbors were in the war, ... Not everyone's cousin or uncle is in this war.

en I think it's good for him to be around his other family, and his brothers on this football team. I think it gets him away from all that other stuff. When you're out there playing, man, it's almost like being in your own world, and the only thing that matters is you and your teammates. And I think that's good for him, especially at a time like this.

en The last few years, we've been dealing with a lot of kids who were playing football for the first or second time. We spent a lot of time just teaching the basics. So now we can do a lot more. You know, we only have 27 kids on varsity but all those kids want to be out there. They all want to be part of something. This team has a lot of enthusiasm.

en That's what you want to be when you're part of the team. That somebody that guys depend on to get the job done and you're able. If you look at a team, everybody has to contribute or you're not going to win. ... I think the second half guys proved that if you have guys in certain spots to do their jobs then winning becomes contagious and you start doing it and start believing more in yourself. And that's when you see guys playing better and better. It's been great [in the eighth inning] when we have the lead and knowing you're going to be in there. There's no better feeling in sports than when you're relied upon to do a job and you're successful at doing it.

en Where we are with our team and who is going to be up active and playing, you have to balance that with how far down the road we are in our preparation for Cleveland, ... That's probably the hardest thing. Is that player going to be up and active compared somebody else? I'm happy with where we are with our football team. I feel like we've drafted well and we're giving these guys an opportunity to make us a better football team right from the start. The more they play, the better they play. And it's fun to see them get an opportunity to play. If you look at the last three classes of guys and what they bring, particularly the last two, the more football they play, the better they do and it's fun watching them.

en I don't think St. Mary's High School is in any position to start being put in the categories of the Group 4 parochial schools. It's far from that. We got 150 boys in the school. We got 32 kids out for the varsity team.

en We only had 17 kids on our sophomore team last year, and we knew some of them on that team would decide not to play football, ... For a lot of kids, football just isn't for them. en When I was a child, our whole family cooked. All my cousins cooked. All my aunts and uncles cooked. It was part of our heritage.
