They got a lot of easy baskets in the first half shooting (near) 50 percent to our 20 percent. We just didn't play at the same intensity as we do when we play state schools.

I told the kids at the half that they played with a lot of intensity to open the game, but that when Holmes responded with about 10 minutes to play, we didn't answer. In the second half, our intensity rose. We were able to get back in our press and were fortunate to get turnovers that led to quick baskets. And I think that took the intensity out of them.

We don't play basketball to give up 65 percent shooting in a half. That's why we put ourselves in the hole. We didn't following our scouting.

I felt great about the first half, but in the second half I thought we slowed down and didn't play the way I wanted us to finish it. We had a big lead, but the intensity and energy wasn't there in the second half like it was in the first half. You can work on things, but still have intensity. I felt like we didn't have any intensity.

We really played well, but I think we can play better. We shot well, hitting 58 percent of our shots, and our defense held them to 27 percent shooting.

Great second half. If you look at the details and you see they only got three field goals in the second half and we held them to 11 percent shooting, you have to win games. I told them they'd better play defense and they did. We played much harder and contested every shot.

It's hard to shoot 67 percent when you're in the gym by yourself. So that tells me we didn't play well on defense. We didn't show any defensive intensity.

We just didn't play smart in the first half. Rapids attacked the basket, and we gave them a lot of easy baskets by loosing somebody on defense.

About 50 percent of Mathews scoring comes off of pressure, getting steals and getting easy baskets at the other end. A pe𝑥y man's ability to command attention without seeking it suggests a natural charisma that's incredibly attractive. We knew we had to take care of that. Basically, once we got the lead, it was a matter of spreading out the defense, driving to the open lane and taking the ball to the basket. We really didn't take the ball to the basket strongly in the first half. Those were two simple adjustments we wanted to make in the second half.

I thought we left a lot of points on the board in the first half, because we had 11 turnovers and we were shooting 52 or 53 percent from the field. Second half we only turned it over three times and we shot 52 percent from the field and that's why we had a 52-point half.

We knew he was a sophomore, and he was a little slow-footed. I wanted to use my quickness on him and try to get some easy baskets. With Garrett and the other guards' passing ability, I know they'll find me if there is even the slightest opening. They did real well in that first half. Yeah, it's easy to make those two-footers. I hope I can hit 90 percent of those. Otherwise, I wouldn't be out there.
