Andy, I think, just coming on board is starting to get his arms around the district finances and is well aware as we head toward the next levy this is a very important matter.

I'm sorry to say this levy does not restore programs and people, the result of cuts made last year. It merely maintains the district where we are, after the 2005 cuts. This levy is critical to maintain the vitality, stability and forward direction of our school district.

Until they actively become board members, they don't understand the district's finances, ... It's an ongoing process of learning.

Nobody wants to talk about district starting next week, but it's going to happen. That's why it's important not to put everything into this one game. We are working towards district and beyond.

Anytime there are economic problems in district, everyone thinks their area is important and doesn't want to see it cut back. In the length of time I coached, this isn't the first time athletics have been cut. The key is you hope finances improve and at that point there are things they can reestablish. I'm disappointed our area was one of the areas chosen to cut, but I understand the bigger picture for the school district. Cuts had to be made.

The change in the operating levy has not kept pace with the change in assessed value. Land value in the county has been increasing at a slightly greater rate than the levy has. The county board has not taken advantage of all that it could have. It has taxed for what it believes is needed to provide services, not what has been available to it.

This is a property levy that will be 10.3-mills operating levy on the ballot. But it's actually replacing a 5-mill levy that expiring this year.

Finances alone are not a reason to merge. What the communities want is what's important. Look beyond the numbers. What will be the real benefits of coming together?

I had more contact with him on issues of his district than probably any other member of the board. If he was aware of a problem or someone in his district came to him with a problem, he wanted it resolved and wanted to understand the issues around it.

Like I've said all year, for the girls team I would love to win district. It would be incredible. I wish we would've gone head-to-head with New Albany during the season so I had a preview of what the district will be like.

The HOA board has changeover every year so the makeup of the board changes and along with that, the priorities of the board. The way it was setting up the (recruit) class of 2006 season wasn't going to be make-or-break (for UC) anyway. I still believe the class of 2007 is more important. Following the end of the season, they need to move swiftly if they're having a fighting chance, because the region is loaded, and I'm not just talking about (North College Hill's O.J.) Mayo. To do that, a full-time guy, whether it's (associate head coach) Andy (Kennedy) or someone else. You have to give him a fighting chance. It has to be a swift mandate for Andy Kennedy or someone else.
