It was a difficult ordtak

en It was a difficult time then. I was a part-time P.E. teacher at Alva High School and Lehigh Elementary because there weren't enough students for full-time P.E. teachers.

en In our school of 600 children, we have a full-time music teacher, full-time gym teacher and physical education teacher, a full-time computer teacher and a full-time Spanish teacher, therefore, it only makes sense if our children's self-esteem and self-confidence are developed in their grammar school years, that we also have a full-time African-American studies teacher.

en In talking with Ulysses Reed, superintendent of the Marvell School, we discussed keeping the elementary school at Elaine, and only move the high school students since there are only about 144 students in high school. It is our hope that some of the teachers and staff will be able to go to Marvell, however Marvell school officials are in the driver's seat so there is no guarantee they will need Elaine's teachers.

en The vast majority are high school students or college students, working part-time. So when you talk to businesses with full-time employees, most pay more than minimum wage. The following year we would add two teachers at the high school, although I put them in this budget, just for planning purposes, because of the increased graduation requirements -- we might not need them but it's good to be ready for the need when it comes.

en The day they tell me I can't hug them (my students), I'll quit. As an elementary teacher, my kids know that when they need a hug, there's one there for them. . . . (But) were I a teacher in a junior high or high school, I would not be hugging the kids.

en This is going to take a lot of teacher training. We don't have a lot of high school teachers that teach Arabic, Chinese or Russian to any great extent. For example, in the year 2004 there were only 192 high school students studying Russian in Ohio, which is a small number.
