Growth is not as robust as the numbers originally showed. But year over year, El Paso is still showing job additions in most industries in the economy.

It is, I think, a little sobering to look at those job growth numbers year over year. The annual numbers are showing a significant decrease throughout the region, and that tends to suggest a slowing economy.

We feel that numbers are not as bad as people think as a few high profile names have reported below expectations. Numbers so far have come down from where they were but have still come in about 5% ahead of analysts' forecasts ... We believe that growth rates are still pretty robust at about six percent growth for the year.

Consumers in October continued on a buying spree, propelled by a very robust economy, ... Many came through with better figures than last year, even though last year the numbers were also very good.

A robust number is consistent with the strength that we have been seeing in Singapore's exports. Growth for the fourth quarter and the full year will probably be better than what we had originally expected.

We feel pretty strongly that the robust orders seen last year could drain orders from this year and next, ... The U.S. economy is showing clear signs of slowing and that could have a ripple effect on airline purchasing plans.

The El Paso hotel market did very good. El Paso hotels in general made money last year. I think we're going to see a decline in occupancy (this year) because we can only absorb about 200 rooms a year without decreasing occupancy, and it looks like there will be more than 200 rooms coming on line this year.

The U.S. economy is performing quite well. We've had two very good years of robust growth. We're looking for it to slow a little bit in 2006 but for it to still be another pretty strong year.

I think next week it will be important to see two things: solid numbers out of growth companies and seeing still a steady stream of economic numbers showing the required slowing of the economy with no inflation.

I think a productive economy is the main thing people should take home with them. This is a unique period in American history. I think we'll look back on it as a time you wanted to own stocks rather than trade stocks. I think, secondarily, corporate America is showing good earnings reports. The second half of this year may be lower than the second half of last year, but they're still robust, probably in the high teens. I think if you focus on financial guide posts, that eventually will drive prices. I think you'll see the market in general do better as the year wears on.

The trade surplus figures showed strong exports and domestic demand. This shows the economy is robust enough to withstand a rate increase later this year, supporting the yen.
