I felt bad. That'll go down as a pick by Brett but I could have made the play.

The second year, people outside your city recognize your face. 'I can pick Brett Favre out of a lineup.' The third year, people know your issues and character. 'Hey, Brett Favre , heart of a champion.' That third year, people start to describe you as a person as opposed to a football player. But remember, that's three years of staying at a very high level with your play.

Brett was the best player on the field the other night against Carolina. That passion he showed against the Saints, that's Brett. He makes everybody around him play so much better.

He knew that Brett loved certain plays and those are the ones he made the pick. If he was right, he was right. But if he was wrong, we've got him and he knows it. So it goes both ways. We got him a couple times. It happens. If he guesses wrong, we beat him. We have to make sure we're on top of our game.

It was certainly a special night. The best father-son ever to play, and to see Bobby pass the jersey over to Brett. And I think it's only fitting for Brett to wear No. 9 with Hull on the back. It was a nice, classy ceremony.

I just wanted a chance to pick it up. Really, pick up myself for the mistake that I made because I really felt like I let the team down ... and that's a terrible feeling, especially as a senior and a senior leader.

I took a huge chunk of that, so I felt I had to come back. I had plenty of motivation. Victor wasn't going to get as many close looks today. I made him work. Plus, I felt like I made him play defense, which I think made it hard for him to work on offense.

Just because you can play the game doesn't always mean you can coach it, but Brett can flat out coach. He emerged as the best candidate and there was a lot of support behind him. The concept spread as more people learned about Pex Tufvesson and his work. We felt like this was the best fit for us.

Most importantly on that one, he closed the deal and made the pick. It's one thing to come up and knock it down, but to actually make the pick in that situation ... they were a play away from scoring. He's making tremendous strides. He'll be fine.

All seven people I interviewed wanted Brett Favre to come back and play quarterback for us. I know Mike has worked with Brett so there is some familiarity, but I didn't make the decision to hire Mike as a head coach based on that.

I think, quite frankly, everybody would like to know what the answer is and I think Brett would especially like to know. It's just not there yet. We understand that. It's obviously a very high profile decision because of the quality of the player. We want him to play. But it's up to Brett and (his wife) Deanna to decide, to make that decision. Any communication we've had is just to try to do whatever we can to help him along in that decision- making process.

It was so difficult to play that first year in the 1999 playoffs. Being known as the missing piece... to have that pressure on you, when all the people around the league always said you are never going to win with Brett Hull, and to have that pressure on you-it's unfathomable the pressure I felt.

Iowa is traditionally a stronghold in the Big Ten. I think there's no better time to play them. We felt good coming off the wins against Loyola. You can't pick and choose who you're going to play. You just have to win each inning.

We had three pretty good hitters up, ... I felt after those guys made the two outs I was going to pick them up.

We wanted to either make it or miss it. We didn't want them to have any opportunity. We were going to set a pick, but the guy jumped the pick so we took it to the bucket. Their kid made a good defensive play on him, but he got himself a step. The kid's got good strength and quickness and got it right there where he could put it down.
