Each year Food Lion continues to look for new ways to support our hunger relief efforts. They have raised a combined total of $1.2 million in monetary and product donations in just the past two years. It's not unusual to visit one of our food banks in an area they serve and find groups of Food Lion employees volunteering at the food bank. They are a great example of a company giving back to their community.

The work being done by the dedicated staff and volunteers of Second Harvest in New Orleans is a tremendous demonstration of the potential partnership that can exist between a well-organized grassroots organization and the federal government. Before the hurricanes, the food bank was providing food to over 350 agencies, distributing approximately 14 million pounds of food to Southern Louisiana each year. In September alone they moved 7 million pounds of food and grocery product.

Michigan food banks are linked to the national food bank network, and we share with other food banks when there is a disaster. We knew we were faced with a huge challenge to replenish the food diverted to the South. Our donors met that challenge and contributed generously.

The Upstate of South Carolina offers a great opportunity for Food Lion LLC and carries out our stated strategy of filling gaps in our existing geographic footprint. We are excited to bring Food Lion and Bloom to the Upstate and look forward to serving customers throughout the region.

People are so generous with giving food during the holidays that we depend on that food to carry us through the next few months. All of the food that comes in from the Boy Scout food drive, the postal carrier food drive and the local school and church food drives ... goes right back out into the community. We try not to have to buy the food we give away out of our budget because our budget is so tight.

This is an executive director who doesn't think twice about jumping in a truck and delivering food. She's a great ambassador for this city and for food banks. Hunger is an issue that isn't going to go away.

These planned store remodels and the introduction of Bloom and Bottom Dollar are indicative of Food Lion's intense focus on serving the diverse range of customers in the Washington region. This effort represents a major commitment by Food Lion to this region and our customers.

Our students and customers are increasingly aware of how their food is raised or produced. Moving to Certified Humane cage-free eggs complements our efforts to serve local and sustainable food when possible.

Partners like Food Lion are national leaders in energy efficiency. The ENERGY STAR Sustained Excellence winners are true models for improving energy efficiency across the country. They have shown year after year that energy efficiency is good for business and helps consumers save important resources, all while protecting the environment. Food Lion embraces a superior energy management strategy that is a model for all businesses.

Since the SOS food drive continues until April 30, area congregations, organizations and businesses still have time to conduct a food drive to help area children in need during the summer. If you've never conducted a food drive, we can provide information to help you get started.

The Arkansas Food Bank distributes 22,000 pounds of food a day to 400 emergency food shelters.

Though these reports have been isolated to just a few products in the H-E-B baby food line, as a company, we are committed to absolute and complete food safety. As a result of that commitment, coupled with the fact that we are dealing with a children's product, we have made the decision to pull all of our H-E-B baby food from our shelves.
