en The way the (school board) meetings are handled, more should be done in the public.

en My idea of an involved school board member is one who attends not just board meetings but other community meetings and school programs. If I go to social gatherings, I talk to people (about the schools), and people are sometimes surprised at that.

en Even though they work full time, they often make less money than the school board members who go to committee meetings and once-a-month board meetings.

en I think it's encouraging that both boards are open to discussion of consolidation and I think this is one of those decisions that has to be made ultimately by the community and not by the school board. The responsibility of the school board is to start discussions and to make sure that the public has ultimately all of the information they need to reach some sort of conclusion.

en Somebody who came down here four years ago and never goes to School Board meetings or workshops, I don't think that carries a lot of weight.

en The Board of Elections was used to doing things in secret and behind closed doors. Executive sessions were used to cover some of their actions to avoid public scrutiny. Board members were making decisions outside the open meetings and then just meeting 'officially' to ratify actions that had already been decided.

en I think that what happened with the three-member board is no one came to the meetings. More members might encourage more public participation.
