It really drives home that most of Alaska is already open to oil and gas development and there's this one place that we've managed to protect thus far.

en We're working with poor native communities that have little access to the resources of the rest of Alaska and the lower 48 states. We're trying to take advantage of opportunities that the Internet and the information economy offer that don't rely on the traditional road system.

en In my dream, the eagle was showing me how life for Native Americans used to be and some things that Native people should do to be healthy once again.

en The native plants are not only beautiful and hardy, they require less water. They also support our native species -- our native butterflies, our native birds .. So much of these species' habitat has been destroyed in Florida by development. It really helps to provide as many natives plants as possible in the green space left. They are precious areas.

en People say time after time that Alaska is on the list of places they want to go. We want to get people thinking about Alaska now rather than later.

en The trade has taken off so quickly that it has been difficult for people to take notice and take action. It's quite amazing. You go into the markets in China and you find very few native species, because most of the native species have already been fully exploited.

en The first thing I would say is . . . rip out that stupid Kentucky bluegrass and put in native grass. Use buffalo grass, which is native grass. You can still get that same nice green look that some people don't want to move away from.
