I was also No. 1 junior back in 1998 ... it took me same time to get up in rankings.

We can't turn the ball over 20 times with two seniors and an experienced junior guard. I just told them I don't want to hear any more about rankings or what we're supposed to do. We have to get back to the basics and start doing the things again that we were doing early in the season.

We are really tired of people asking us about our rankings and we have to say we're not ranked because we do not have a full-time day program. We're not doing this just for the rankings, but unfortunately, this is the way the game is played.

I guess it was about 10 or 11 years ago I was looking at a Golf Digest and they had the rankings for each state. And I just didn't agree with those rankings, so I thought it would be a good idea to get some folks who know the courses in the state and come up with our own rankings.

This tournament gives us the opportunity to move up and secure our spot in the rankings. There are teams behind us who are looking to move up as well. The field is a motivating factor in terms of preparation, and one that we get fired up for in the schedule, but when it comes down to the competition, it comes down to playing one shot at a time and doing our best.

People don't understand how remarkable it is that Junior came back from it. What he went through was a surgery [having three titanium screws attach his hamstring] that had never been done before on a baseball player. We weren't wondering what level Junior would be playing at. We were wondering if he'd even be back at all. That he's been playing at such a high level this season has been truly a wonder.

When you look at the individual components of rankings, press coverage does not play into many of them. That said, every University should look into the rankings so they know they are an accurate reflection.

I've very disappointed in the rankings, because the reality is that such rankings do hurt us, whether they're real or perceived. A message gets out, and we have to combat a negative.

We go to Pakistan and India and if we win, the rankings might change but we haven't looked at the rankings, we want to beat Australia this summer.
