There have been less corporate tax returns this year. I don't know if that's because they have gone out of business or for some other reason.

There are important public policy arguments to be made in favor of maintaining the privacy of corporate returns. Nevertheless, making corporate tax returns or a portion thereof public would likely improve compliance. I believe this idea merits debate.

We have advised our field offices that there's no relation between what goes on in preparing the individual tax returns and the corporate returns.

The reason they're jumping on board is because of the attractive returns that the commodity markets have seen over the last 2 or 3 years. If you go into a more sideways pattern those returns get a lot less attractive.

The main reason for that is corporate earnings growth. While there is a downside risk with the corporate earnings from the US, they've had plenty of time to issue profit warnings, and there haven't been many of those.
