We're getting there, but we thought we were on track before and we fell off. We're just trying to come out and get better in practice every day and then come out and play every game like we've got something to prove.

At first I thought I'd be heading in there with a chip on my shoulder or something to prove, ... but shortly into the first practice I realized ... that I could play with these guys and everything was fine.

I'm not trying to prove that I could play defense. I want to prove that I can help the team win. I thought I had a shot at it, but to tell you the truth, I thought it was going to blow over my head, and I got up there. I wasn't sure if I was going to catch it. That's why I was so fired up. I was surprised that I got it.

A lot of pressure was really on us to prove something to this town. We know that we won that first game on the field, and we had to prove that 10 minutes of batting practice didn't affect the outcome.

We've got something to prove every time we hit the field and there's going to be even more to prove now since we came down here a month ago and lost. We didn't do our job for that game, any aspect of it. Now we've got to turn it up a notch at practice and get ready.

Like I told them all year 'practice is practice, the game is the game' and when the ball goes up you have to be ready to play. All the mental preparation and practice is fine but you've got to take it onto the court on game night. Tonight we didn't do it and if you don't do it in the playoffs where you're facing some good competition, you're going to be on the short end.

We know they're considered to be basically the best D-III team in the section even thought they're not the No. 1 seed. It's an opportunity for our kids to go out and prove that they can play with anybody. We feel like when we bring our A-game, that we can step on the court and we can be competitive with anybody we play against.

We've won some games but we've got a lot to prove still. It's going to a big test for us. Obviously our first road game we didn't play really well, so we need to prove to ourselves that we can go out in a tough environment and play well.

I thought yesterday's (Monday's) afternoon practice wasn't up to par. Today's practice was very lively. We need that. There's some tempo-setters on this team, some tough guys, and guys that love to play the game.

She (Lalonde) lost her composure a little bit in the seventh inning. She struggled a little bit. But this shouldn't have been a 5-1 game. We didn't play our best game. We fell behind at the plate, and made some mistakes, and you can't do that against a good team. We kind of fell apart in the last inning. We just didn't have our game.

I am disappointed in the outcome, but I am happy with what I saw. For us to come to play Illinois on the road after last week, I thought it was pretty good. Nobody really thought we had a chance to win. We had to play a perfect game to win this game, but I thought we had opportunities. ... It could have been easily a 25-point loss. I thought our guys did a great job staying in it.

When it comes down to that moment when we play, we have something to prove every game. When it comes to that game, we'll have something to prove, too, and it'll have great meaning to us.

Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo world. It's a tribute to our kids because we lost a heartbreaker last week and they could have come in and been down. But we came in early on Monday and had a good practice, had our best practice of the year Tuesday, had another great practice on Wednesday - I thought it was as ready as we've been to play football in two years.

We thought it would do them good to have match practice before the tough series, especially as they are unlikely to play in the warm-up game in Lahore.

We're pretty old-school coaches, ... You've got to do it in practice if you're going to do it in the game. I'm not going to relent on that. If you do it in practice, you'll do it in the game. If you don't do it, you don't get a chance to play in the game.
